We have an exciting opportunity for a problem solver, a change agent who is excited about process development and taking it to the NEXT level. The Sr Tooling & Molding Engineer will be responsible for new molding tool validations, develop process windows, support with current tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in the tool design and approval process according to the MOTUS Tooling standards.
  • Support CAD designer about plastic part engineering.
  • Support the quotation process by providing input on mold secondary equipment requirements and injection molding machine size.
  • Lead on new product launch tooling and process tryouts at each milestone through Product Development Process (PDP), with manufacturers, vendors and with the MOTUS plants providing the manufacturing and engineering inputs for development of new process, parts and tooling to meet our goals of safety, quality and productivity.
  • Manage the technical part and mold tuning from Off Tool to Initial samples, manage the molding tryouts.
  • Lead on new product launch tooling the analysis of mold flow simulation and define process parameters which will ensure reliable and robust part validation and production.
  • Coordinate and participate in the molding correction action for new and ongoing manufacturing issues (Root cause analysis).
  • Travels to tooling vendors in Mexico and the United States for on-site follow up and tool tryouts.
  • Lead tooling Start of Production at MX facilities.
  • Identify opportunities of improvement to existing process and tooling related to current product lines with regards to the cost savings, quality, and/or design of molding products.
  • Support Engineering changes for current production tools.
  • Lead coordination to improve and more clearly define Motus tooling standards at the MX facilities, to include the investigation of potential new tooling concepts and processes.
  • Creating technical specifications to define the equipment needed for supplier quoting and sourcing.
  • Support with design team to take armrest, IP components, central consoles design from theoretical to actual (automotive interior parts), deliver process to plant that meets targets for manufacturability, quality, and cost build, source tools to make parts.
  • Support on taking the customer’s request for quote and the Motus developed bill of material to create a manufacturing strategy to produce the part as defined by the customer and product engineering team. That strategy will include necessary equipment, manning for the line, cycle time, floor space/layout and material/process flow.
  • Applying all the elements of the Motus Product Development Process (PDP) for successful achievement of key milestones within the product development and launch process.
  • Managing the day-to-day project details, including creating and updating tactical plans (timelines) identifying project tasks, and managing those tasks to successful and timely completion.
  • Apply principles of lean engineering in setting up manufacturing lines and equipment to eliminate waste, line balance workstations and optimize floor space.
  • Lean engineering principals and problem-solving tools including benchmarking & reverse engineering, DFMEA, 8D’s, tactical planning, Kepner-Tregoe Problem Resolution, 5-Why process, documenting lessons learned.
  • Understanding of and ability to create/maintain typical production governing documents like PFMEA, PEIL, Process Flow, Operator Instructions, etc.
  • Assessing the manufacturing feasibility for Motus products, root-causing assembly problems and identifying short- and long-term countermeasures for resolution of manufacturing issues.
  • Taking the initiative to find solutions, asking for guidance when required, and executing projects on-time and within budget.
