Job Description Summary

Externals Design Engineer is required for the GE9X engine program. This NPI program is currently between the FAR33 certification and Entry-Into-Service stages. The candidate will own Externals hardware (mainly tubes and brackets) and lead design changes which require close coordination with multiple teams such as the Analysis, Product Definition, Manufacturing Programs, teams. Also, strong communication skills are required to be able to successfully present design reviews at different forums such as Design Board, Tech Review, Program Control Board, Certification Control Board, etc. Strong technical writing skills is also required since for CIDs and other types of required documentation.

Activities contributing to the design and development of products, solutions and systems. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.

  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

  • In depth knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts.

  • Proficient listening, written and oral communication skills in English.

  • Proficient on preparing writing and oral presentations for a wide range of customer and GE internal audiences ranging from executive, section, sub-section and peer level.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results.

  • Solid Understanding of Design process, Analysis, test and validation of industrial products
