Mexico is a country of origin, transit, and destination for migrant children from the countries of northern Central America, seeking safety and opportunity in Mexico or the United States. These are children fleeing from violence, poverty, and limited access to education and social services.

UNICEF is supporting state and local authorities in supporting children’s right to quality education.

How can you make a difference?

If you are selected as an Education Officer in Chihuahua, you will be connected to our team in Ciudad Juarez and remotely report to the Chief of Field Office who is based in Ciudad Juarez. You will be coordinating your technical work with the Chief of Education (Mexico City) for planning and implementation of the education programme in the state, as well as programmatic guidance. Also, you will be required to carry out frequent missions throughout the state of Chihuahua.  Your main responsibilities will be:

1.Support to programme development and planning.

2. Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results.

3. Technical and operational support to programme implementation.

4. Networking and partnership building.

5. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building.

To qualify as an advocate for every child, you will have the following requirements… 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, preferably education, psychology, sociology, etc.
  • One year of progressively responsible work experience in education, with proven experience supporting programme activities.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • An intermediate level of English.

You may also have the following assets (desirable, not mandatory)… 

  • An advanced university degree in education or additional certificates.
  • Experience working in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.
  • Experience working with the public education system of Mexico.
  • Experience working for UNICEF or another UN agency.
  • Fluency in English.

  • This is a temporary position, expected to last 364 days. Exceptionally, it may be extended for an additional 364 days, summing to 728 days as the maximum possible duration of this appointment.
  • Please note that this position is based in Chihuahua, Chihuahua where we do not have an office. The incumbent may be required to travel constantly to our office in Ciudad Juarez and will respond remotely to this office.
