Software Engineering Manager (Backend SaaS)Join Canonical to apply for the Software Engineering Manager (Backend SaaS) role.Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT.We are hiring an engineering manager to lead the reboot of our Landscape systems management solution for Ubuntu. The goal is to make it easy for enterprises to own a few Landscape instances that serve their global estate and to be able to apply policy and know intuitively where they stand - globally - in a complex world of mixed Ubuntu versions, substrates, and flavours.As an engineering manager at Canonical, you will work closely with product managers, produce an engineering roadmap with ambitious and achievable goals, and grow a team of engineers. You must be technically strong, with a background in software engineering and technical leadership experience.Key responsibilities include:Build and lead a team of engineersDevelop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career developmentDemonstrate sound engineering principles and directly contribute toward your team's goalsSet and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholdersLead modern, agile software development practicesEnsure a healthy, collaborative engineering cultureBe an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organisationBuild automated, highly reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelinesEngage with many other teams at Canonical, as well as the open source community and commercial partnersValued skills and experience include:Mentoring, developing, and growing peopleKnowledge and passion for software developmentFocus on success and delivery of timely, high-quality softwareExperience with agile development methodologiesBachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar degreeSoftware development experience in Python or GolangEffective written and verbal communication skillsPractical experience with Linux system administrationWhat we offer colleagues:Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in personPersonal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per yearAnnual compensation reviewRecognition rewardsAnnual holiday leaveMaternity and paternity leaveTeam Member Assistance Program & Wellness PlatformOpportunity to travel to new locations to meet colleaguesPriority Pass and travel upgrades for long-haul company eventsCanonical is an equal opportunity employer.
