About The Team The Design Systems and Design Systems Tooling team, part of the User Experience Foundation (UXF) group, are responsible for the concepts, guides, systems, and components that make up the foundation of Etsy's customer experience. The team partners closely with Design, Product, and Engineering across all platforms to support Etsy’s product teams in building consistent, inclusive, and accessible experiences for Buyers and Sellers. As a cross‑functional, cross‑platform group of web and native designers and engineers, the team’s work has a multiplier effect, impacting nearly every surface of the Etsy product and the end-to-end customer journey. About The Role The contractor will support the DS and DS Tooling team by accelerating the creation of reusable web components, augment the team’s ability to build design system tooling (enhanced by generative AI) and supporting adoption of components and tooling across the organization. Key Responsibilities Create and update reusable components that are used by product teams across all of Etsy Create and maintain Design System tools that improve engineering and designer consistency, accessibility for our customers. Contribute to lead projects - such as implementing a new token structure in web, improving our Metrics, or re‑writing complex components Provide daily support for peers across Etsy (e.g. writing documentation, reviewing pull requests, answering Slack questions, auditing new features, hosting office hours and classes) Identify tech debt and propose tracks of work that move the Design Systems forward Serve as an advocate for Design Systems, Frontend, and Accessibility across Etsy Technical Environment The contractor’s work will primarily use JavaScript/TypeScript and React Requirements Must‑Have Strong expertise in front‑end development using JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS, including experience with React Experience creating and maintaining reusable frontend components used across large product surfaces Experience building or integrating AI‑powered or generative AI tooling to support developer workflows or design systems Nice‑to‑Haves Experience building tooling such as - linters/validators, metric collectors related to component usage or adoption Experience working with or building Web Components Knowledge of web accessibility standards and best practices (e.g, WCAP, WAI-ARIA) Details/Notes Is there a possibility for an extension and/or permanent role in the future? May extend or convert, depending on the needs of the team, budget availability and contractor performance Interview process 30‑min manager screen, followed by a 60‑min technical assessment (e.g. live coding session) with 2 members of the hiring team. #J-18808-Ljbffr
