Manufacturing Software Engineer

The Manufacturing Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting manufacturing station software for new products and product lines. This role plays a critical part in enabling scalable, repeatable, and high-quality manufacturing by translating product and process requirements into robust, production-ready software. This role requires strong technical depth, practical manufacturing experience, and the ability to operate independently in a production environment. Key Responsibilities Develop, maintain, and deploy manufacturing station software to support new product introductions (NPI) and product line expansions Design software that interfaces with test equipment, fixtures, sensors, and manufacturing hardware Implement reliable communication with PCBAs using common protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, I²C, USB, Ethernet, CAN, or similar) Implement reliable wireless communication between PCBA's and test infrastructure using common protocols (BLE, LoRa, LoRaWAN, WiFi, GPS, Cellular etc.) Collaborate with Electrical and Test Engineering teams to define test strategies and software requirements Support characterization, validation, and debug of manufacturing test stations during development and ramp Ensure software adheres to best practices for reliability, maintainability, version control, documentation, and security Troubleshoot and resolve software-related issues in a production environment to minimize downtime and yield loss Support manufacturing operations through continuous improvement of station code, test coverage, and execution time Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field 5–7 years of relevant professional experience in manufacturing software, test software, or production systems Demonstrated experience developing software for manufacturing or operations environments Strong working knowledge of PCBAs and other electronic devices or IoT devices Solid understanding of embedded and manufacturing communication technologies and protocols Proficiency in Python and common libraries used for automation (pyserial, pyodbc, paramiko etc.), as well as familiarity with low level languages (C/C++, C# etc.) Proficiency in data modeling for structuring/reporting manufacturing data (test measurements, diagnostic/metadata, logging etc.) as well as interfacing with backends via common protocols/methods (API's, web-sockets, MQTT, SQL drivers etc.) Experience applying software engineering best practices, including modular design, code reviews, version control, and documentation Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues across software, hardware, and process Fluency in both English and Spanish (written and verbal) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams Clear and concise technical communication Comfort operating in fast-paced manufacturing environments High attention to detail with a focus on quality and reliability #J-18808-Ljbffr
