At ASF, a teacher’s main goal is to guide the students through the different learning processes involved with various subjects and/or skills defined in ASF curricula, thus contributing to the students’ development as mature, capable, and responsible world citizens. As part of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), the teacher is committed to fostering inquiry-based learning, transdisciplinary connections, and international‑mindfulness. The Teacher must develop and maintain a classroom environment that ensures effective and safe learning and incorporates pedagogical innovations and research. They must employ appropriate teaching methodology to meet established program objectives and be capable of understanding and meeting the needs of students. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Delivery Develop and implement transdisciplinary units of inquiry that align with the IB PYP framework and ASF curriculum. Teach basic subjects such as literacy (reading and writing), mathematics (counting, basic operations), science (basic concepts), social studies, and creative arts (music, drawing, etc.). Incorporate play‑based and inquiry‑based learning strategies, hands‑on activities, and outdoor experiences to stimulate learning. Use a variety of teaching strategies, resources, and technology to engage diverse learners effectively. Child Development & Support Monitor and support the individual development of each child, addressing any developmental or emotional concerns. Promote social skills, teamwork, and conflict resolution among children. Provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where children feel secure and confident to explore, learn, and grow. Assessment & Evaluation Use formative and summative assessments to track student progress and inform instructional planning. Observe and assess children's progress in various developmental areas (cognitive, social, emotional, and physical). Maintain records of each child's progress and development and provide regular feedback to parents or guardians. Identify children who may need additional support or interventions and collaborate with special educators or other staff when necessary. Classroom Management Create a positive and structured classroom environment where children can learn effectively and safely. Implement classroom rules and routines, ensuring a balance between learning and play. Address behavioral issues in a constructive and nurturing way. Parent and Community Engagement Build strong relationships with parents and guardians, keeping them informed about their child’s progress and classroom activities. Hold parent‑teacher meetings and provide periodic updates on developmental milestones and academic achievements. Organize and participate in school events, field trips, and other activities that enhance the learning experience. Collaboration with Staff Work collaboratively with other teachers, assistants, and school staff to ensure a cohesive educational environment. Participate in professional development programs to stay updated with the latest teaching methods, educational tools, and child development research. Contribute to school‑wide initiatives and projects that promote a positive school culture. Education Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (or equivalent). Additional certifications in early childhood education or teaching (depending on location) may be required. Bachelor’s degree in education and/or pedagogy from a SEP/UNAM‑approved institution with certification (cédula profesional, CENEVAL). Two years of successful teaching experience (in case of Pre‑Primary – have two years of experience in Preschool). Experience in curriculum planning and child development. Has PYP experience. Bilingual: English and Spanish. Has experience in other international and/or bilingual schools. Has training in restorative practices or specifically Responsive Classroom.
