Initial salary placement will be at the first class/step until all required documentation has been submitted.FLSA StatusExempt (does not accrue overtime)Position TypeAdjunctBargaining UnitAFT/College FacultyRangeNot applicableDepartmentDistrict WideThe PositionPart‑time/temporary faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Assignments may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes. Applicants must live within commuting distance to San Diego.Major ResponsibilitiesTeach scheduled lecture and laboratory courses.Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.Provide quality instruction and create an environment that encourages free discussion of ideas.Respond to students outside of class as required.QualificationsMaster’s degree in Journalism or Communication with a specialization in Journalism; ORBachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communication with a specialization in Journalism AND a Master’s degree in English history, Communication, Literature, Composition, Comparative Literature, or a related social science or business field; ORPossession of a California Community College Instructor Credential (valid for life) in Communication Services and Related Technologies, including Printing; ORThe equivalent.Desired QualificationsCompletion of a Request for Equivalency Form and attachment of a professional equivalency evaluation may satisfy missing qualifications.Commitment to DiversityAll applicants must demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and classified professionals.Special Instructions to ApplicantsVariable, depending on assignment.Conditions of EmploymentAll selected candidates must complete the following prior to employment:Submit official college transcripts.Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (renewable every 4 years).Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the district’s expense (Clearance required before first day of employment).Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States. #J-18808-Ljbffr
