Role Purpose

The Supply Chain Market Intelligence Group (MIG) is a team responsible for managing the market insights delivered through our suite of software-as-a-service products, including price benchmarking, cost escalation, forecasting, renewable asset cost estimating, commodity exposure, supply chain risks, carbon (GHG) emissions, supplier and other category insights across all goods and services procured globally by the energy and natural resource industry. Our clients primarily leverage these insights to identify opportunities to save money and reduce risks. We are a hybrid group that wears many hats: data analyst, consultant, economist, market researcher and product owner. In our hybrid role, we collaborate closely with many teams in the company, including product development, data science, research groups, consulting, sales & marketing and customer success, among others.

In particular, this role will focus on the price forecasting, commodity exposure, cost modelling, and renewable asset cost estimating activities within MIG.

Main Responsibilities

  • Leverage Wood Mackenzie proprietary data along with primary research to develop goods and services price forecasts and strategy recommendations for our clients. Deliver insights through our SaaS product platform and through reports that include both conceptual analysis and quantitative findings.
  • Estimate the cost to build and operate solar, wind, battery storage and other power generating assets.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for MIG clients as an expert on select Wood Mackenzie supply chain products as well as power and renewables markets.
  • Support the sales process by creating marketing collateral infused with market insights and contributing to go-to-market strategies, proposal development and product demonstrations.
  • Perform data extraction, manipulation, cleaning, analysis, and audit of large datasets, relying on well-structured procedures and maintaining reproducibility of results.
  • Combine existing data in new ways, cleanse and enrich data to make it more powerful and pioneer new ways to analyse and visualize data.
  • Contribute as part of an Agile Scrum team in a fast-paced environment with high visibility to the rest of the company.
  • Write clear and concise commentary to supplement the data and provide market context to customers.

About You

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
  • Applicable bachelor's degree with a quantitative, statistical, energy and/or economics focus.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving, and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Enjoys organizing large data sets, identifying discrepancies, and making appropriate adjustments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills including lookups, pivot tables, index-match, and queries.
  • Experience with programming, data proofing, mining, and cleansing.
  • Strong interpersonal and client-facing skills with success in a team environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt based on the needs of clients and Wood Mackenzie.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • No prior full-time work experience required.

Pluses:

  • Experience in the energy industry, preferably power and renewables.
  • Python, R and other coding and data science skills to manipulate, calculate, and handle large datasets.
  • Excellent writing skills.

Expectations

  • We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment, but this may be subject to change in the future.
  • Due to the global nature of the team and our clients, a degree of flexible working may be required to accommodate different time zones.
  • While infrequent, occasional travel to visit clients/prospects or attend conferences may be required.
