Your Role at Baxter:
Join Our Exceptional TeamThe role of Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in our Medical Affairs group involves being a field-based member. MSLs, who are healthcare professionals, collaborate with the clinical community, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), researchers, pharmacists, and nurse educators. They serve as liaisons between clinical investigators seeking research support and scientific authorities to identify potential opportunities and sites for future Baxter-sponsored research. MSLs establish professional relationships with KOLs in critical areas of our Advanced Surgery business. They engage in training sessions, deliver clinical and scientific presentations, and participate in conferences and company-sponsored events. This team works closely with internal Medical Affairs teams within their area of expertise to facilitate the launch of new products, support essential product strategies, and contribute to publications.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Exchange medical and scientific information with customers and internal partners on a peer-to-peer basis.
  • Stay updated on therapeutic areas, major ongoing and completed studies, product information, and clinical data.
  • Act as the primary scientific authority in surgery and guide customers on product-related matters.
  • Assist in various projects such as medical affairs initiatives, wet labs, Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities, advisory boards, interactions with KOLs, nurse training programs, scientific reviews, and investigator meetings.
  • Ensure promotional materials comply with legal, regulatory, and scientific standards.
  • Contribute to the regional Medical Affairs strategy for generating clinical evidence.
  • Lead and participate in ethically sound projects and research aligned with strategies, aiding in the coordination of clinical trials.
  • Provide scientific information in response to unsolicited requests from clinicians regarding upcoming products/indications.
  • Collaborate with market access and commercial teams to support regional market access and funding matters.
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration with the therapeutic area team, conduct Live Utilization Reviews (LURs) in the operating room, and keep medical management informed on local issues and action plans.
  • Interact with national/regional Key Opinion Leaders to share scientific insights, differentiate product attributes, and discuss outcomes studies.
  • Identify and implement medical initiatives for new and existing products, maintain disease, product, and therapy knowledge, and serve as the point of contact for investigators seeking support for Initiated Studies.
  • Oversee Investigator-Initiated Research (IIR) efforts and ensure follow-up until publication/presentation.
  • Identify potential research sites and collaborate with global teams for Baxter-sponsored research.
  • Represent the Medical Department at local and international medical conferences, manage medical education booths, facilitate abstract submissions, attend sessions, and participate in scientific committees.
  • Support the development and delivery of scientific materials, provide clinical education and training to the sales force, gather competitive intelligence, and assist in medical information when required.

What You'll Bring:
  • Minimum requirement of a Physician (MD/DO) with operating room experience in Nephrology.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly establish rapport with renal teams in the operating room.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, strong professionalism and integrity, good organizational and analytical skills, proficiency in English, high ethical standards, a collaborative team player, and willingness to travel at least 50% of the time.
  • Preferred: 2+ years of successful experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
