Ensures drawings, 3D models and design guides communicate information to suppliers and the organization in a clear, conscience and accurate manner.

Conceptualizes, designs, develops and creates prototypes for new and existing products. This includes recommendations for rapid prototyping of concepts.
Creates and/or modifies drawings and solid models utilizing design and development software, tools and equipment. Provides concept sketches and offers design recommendations which may involve formal presentations.
Leads design reviews ensuring that products meet ODL and supplier capabilities. Incorporates all required QA information into prints to facilitate measurement, validation and ongoing compliance of components.

Participates in Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and project activities to ensure that products move through developmental phases smoothly.

Reviews the tolerance stack up analysis done by the project engineer and performs FEA simulations as required to ensure predicted product performance.

Leads and coordinates activities related to establishing and adherence to ODL Design Standards, p rocedures and related processes. Works with Design manager to establish and implement best practices within the design team.

Participates in continuous improvement processes including, but not limited to, development of new processes and products to improve efficiency of department.

This may include leading a project as required.
Is a design expert within ODL.

Provides assistance and guidance to the designers and engineers in terms of design practices, dimensioning to match assembly methods, understanding of tolerance stack ups, and best practices.

Is able to recommend optimal clearances and fit with parts based on use and experience. Sees the product as a system and is able to understand the interactions between
Participates in cross-functional teams and works on projects with engineers, designers, managers and other staff. Interfaces with team members and managers to develop feasible product concepts, designs, and development. Works with outside suppliers to design to best practices for components where ODL is not the expert or supplier.
Works closely with BOM coordinator to ensure data integrity and consistency between Oracle and ODL's drawing database.
Performs other duties as necessary in support of projects and departmental goals/objectives.

As an integral member of the New Product Development Process, the Product Designer provides visual representations by conceptualizing, designing, and developing prototypes for new and existing products.

Utilizes design and development software, tools and equipment. Leads design reviews, and participates in DFMEA, and project activities to ensure that products move through developmental phases smoothly. Leads and coordinates activities related to establishment of Design Engineering guidelines, procedures, and related processes. Participates in continuous improvement processes, implementing procedures and processes to improve efficiency of department. Participates in cross-functional teams related to product development. Continues to implement and improve best practices in design and communication of that design to the organization. BS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
One year of related design experience with a variety of products. (Injection molded, extrusions, stampings, roll forming, assemblies, plastics, metals, etc. ).
One or more years 3D CAD modeling experience required - Solidworks experience preferred .
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and apply common engineering, design and drafting principles. Experience with tolerance , stack ups, and assemblies in accordance with industry standards and practices.
Good organization skills with the ability to work on projects from beginning to end. Must be able to coordinate necessary resources, and manage timing and implementation of projects.
Excellent t ime management skills .

Ability to work independently under limited supervision while taking initiative, and make decisions in order to achieve goals and complete projects.

Candidate must be driven and willing to search out those inside and outside the organization that can provide information needed or helpful in making a decision and producing a better design.

Advanced Quality process knowledge and understanding. Practical experience with DOE, DFMEA and capability studies. Is able to apply knowledge gained to improve E&D design standards.
Demonstrated good communication skills to interact with internal and external contacts.
Attention to detail and desire to push for continuous improvement.
