Purpose Statement: The Supplier Quality Engineer II is responsible for driving the organization's Zero Defect Strategy and continuous improvement into the supply base to ensure compliance and mitigate risks within operations. This role plays a vital part in representing the supplier quality function to customers, external auditors, and internal teams for all incoming raw materials and services. Supplier Quality is a critical technical and indirect leadership function focusing on applying quality fundamentals to influence suppliers to meet or exceed expectations.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Supplier Qualification - Take the lead in supplier qualification by being a key member in supplier selection and evaluation teams using a risk-based approach. Conduct supplier audits applying good auditing practices and the Quality Management System (QMS) for both new programs and ongoing management of suppliers.
  • Part Qualification - Utilize purchased product specifications to identify Critical to Quality features and complete part qualification activities utilizing elements of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) to ensure requirements flow smoothly from Customers to the supply base. Integrate part qualification activities into receiving inspection by establishing sampling plans and inspection criteria. Represent Supplier Quality in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) teams and supplier change requests to drive Zero Defect strategies into the supply chain.
  • Supplier Management - Lead supplier corrective action activities across multiple levels of the supply chain using non-conforming parts, data trends, and supplier audit findings. Analyze data to detect trends and provide feedback to suppliers to enhance supplier performance. Assist in classifying suppliers by risk for further development or auditing activities.
  • Engineering Expertise - Employ expertise in the assigned engineering function to challenge suppliers' processes using a risk-based approach. This includes design reviews, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans (CP), and Statistical Process Controls (SPC) applied to selected manufacturing technologies.
  • Contribute to shaping future Supplier Quality Strategies and assist in the development of supplier quality engineers in technical growth and supplier quality fundamentals. Apply domain depth to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Work Instructions (WI), and templates for enhancing standard work and operational rigor.

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or equivalent work experience.
  • A combination of education, experience, and time in the field will be considered, with internal candidates possibly facing distinct requirements tailored to their demonstrated skills and contributions within the organization.

Other Qualifications:

  • ASQ Certification preferred (CQE, CQA, CMQOE)
  • Broad understanding of materials, manufacturing technologies, and processes

Physical Requirements:

  • The role involves supporting operational teams in a manufacturing environment with necessary personal protective equipment. Facilities maintain comfortable temperatures and provide repetitive low noise levels and suitable lighting for tasks. May involve walking, standing, sitting, computer usage, and other office equipment. Direct interaction with people and equipment is event-driven and includes activities related to inspecting, qualifying, troubleshooting, and enhancing jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing methods with various components or materials. The role may require working independently on tasks with a prolonged focus on written material, collaborating as part of a team with diverse backgrounds, and utilizing multiple software systems.
