Data Infrastructure at Venmo
The Venmo Data Infrastructure team is responsible for managing Venmo's internal data movements and message streaming infrastructure that impact both internal operations and customers.
The team collaborates closely with development groups, platform, and infrastructure teams, offering deep expertise for feature design and addressing customer and performance issues at scale.
What you'll do:
- Design, implement, and maintain data infrastructure initiatives to deliver a secure, scalable, reliable, and efficient platform for Venmo's product, analytics, and other infrastructure teams.
- Automate provisioning, management, and monitoring solutions for the supported data infrastructure.
- Establish a scalable and reliable data pipeline architecture to enhance overall performance.
- Develop tools that enable users to derive actionable insights from data, leading to improved customer experiences, operational efficiency, and business performance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including executives, product, engineering, and analytics teams to address data-related technical challenges and support data infrastructure requirements.
- Work with team members to plan and execute initiatives effectively.
- Process, extract, and manage relational databases and systems, involving query authoring (SQL) and NoSQL databases.
- Create extensive, intricate data sets that fulfill functional and non-functional business needs.
- Implement message streaming solutions for Venmo applications using AWS SQS, Apache Kafka, and similar technologies.
- Demonstrate a capacity to quickly grasp new technologies and best practices.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's and/or master's degree in computer science or a related field of study.
- Over 3 years of experience in software development or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in managing on-premises/cloud databases/data warehouses and/or distributed systems.
- Proficiency in operating/maintaining message streaming solutions like AWS SQS, Apache Kafka, and more.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities.
- Hands-on experience in designing and implementing infrastructure to support services on a global scale.
- Practical experience with IaaS and PaaS solutions from AWS or similar cloud providers, involving Infrastructure as Code and programming/scripting skills.
- Experience in big data operations, including AWS S3, AWS DMS, AWS SQS, Luigi, AWS EKS, Apache Spark, AWS Glue, among others.
- Effective communication skills to convey technical issues to non-technical audiences.
- Understanding of TLS/mTLS protocols from an application standpoint is beneficial.
- AWS Solutions Architect certification is advantageous.
