POSITION SUMMARY
  • This position is based in Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guyana, Mexico or Suriname The Senior Coordinator, Carbon Markets and Climate Policy provides administrative, research, and project support to the Global Policy and Government Affairs division, in relation to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and carbon markets policy work.
The Senior Coordinator is responsible for knowledge management, workflow, and project monitoring and reporting, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and carbon markets policy work, among other policy priorities.

Job duties include conducting research projects on Article 6, carbon market and climate policy issues, providing summaries of key findings for CI staff, and supporting the development of program communications, including memos, presentations and other materials.

The Senior Coordinator provides administrative support to team staff and organizes meetings, including agendas, logistics, minutes, and reporting, as well as managing work plans and event logistics, budgeting, payments, and scheduling.

This position requires developing a broad and comprehensive knowledge of CI's policies, procedures, and values, strong administrative and organizational skills, project management, critical thinking, ability to multi-task, build relationships, and handle sensitive information.

The Senior Coordinator must professionally represent the GPGA division at all times to internal and external audiences. RESPONSIBILITIES Monitor key developments around Article 6 of the Paris Agreement transactions, carbon markets, and climate policies at national and international level, and other priority topics from relevant institutions online (e.g. UNFCCC, CORSIA, REDD+ Lima Hub, Voluntary Carbon Markets, and other sources), summarize key takeaways, and ensure information is communicated internally in a timely fashion.

Conduct research and update internal research materials on Article 6, carbon markets policies and other climate policy issues; synthesize findings into internal briefs, presentations or reports; solicit review and assistance from other divisions/programs, as needed; disseminate to relevant internal channels.

Draft communications materials such as external webpage content, Intranet news updates, publications, slide decks, presentations or blog posts as needed.

Support grant administration such as developing workplans, compiling progress reports, tracking and review of project results, responding to information requests, coordinating project activities, and following procurement procedures, among other areas as needed.

Organize preparations for CI-led meetings and events, including meeting scheduling, meeting agenda and room preparations, note taking, providing on-site support and receiving guests, and following up with notes and action items.

Manage files, reports, and assets in online collaboration and information storage platforms (e.g., SharePoint and Microsoft Teams).Efficiently execute a variety of routine administrative and operational tasks, including procurement, human resources procedures, contracting and budgeting support, among others.

Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. WORKING CONDITIONS Typical office environment.

Frequent virtual work with remote team members and other parts of CI.Ability to work extended hours or travel as needed.

This position follows a hybrid work structure, working some days from the office and some remotely. Guidance will be shared during the interview process.
This is a fixed-term assignment, expected to be 2 years.

QUALIFICATIONS Required Bachelor ́s degree in international affairs, public policy, environmental studies, or related field.2 to 4 years of related policy work experience, preferably in the conservation, non-governmental sector, or advocacy arena.

Strong understanding of international climate policy issues and carbon pricing policies, with the ability to identify and summarize key information for different audiences; understanding of carbon markets and nature-based carbon project development will be a plus.

Excellent organization and prioritization skills, as well as attention to detail.
Resourcefulness, critical thinking, and ability to work proactively and independently.
Ability to coordinate and work effectively as a member of a team. Ability to support group meetings in person and remotely.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals from a variety of disciplines, cultures and backgrounds.

Fluency in written and spoken English.
Flexibility and willingness to work in situations of flux.
Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership for wide-ranging responsibilities.

Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office softwareCommitment to CI's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion; ability to uphold these principles in all work.

Preferred At least 2 years of experience in international climate policy preferred.
Working knowledge of carbon markets and nature-based carbon project development will be considered a plus.

Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from a variety of disciplines, cultures, and backgrounds, including the ability to identify and summarize key information for different audiences.

In addition to fluency in English, proficiency in at least one other language spoken in a country where CI operates.
