Retirement:

This position will automatically be enrolled in the Public Employees Retirement Fund (PERF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA).

In addition, this position is eligible to enroll in a 401(a) retirement investment plan, a 403(b) Match Program, and a tax-free post-retirement medical expense account (VEBA).


Additional Benefits:

Employees enrolled in an EVSC medical insurance plan are eligible to use our Health & Wellness Centers conveniently located within the community.

These are no-cost health clinics that provide primary care treatment, generic prescription medications (at no cost), physicals, health screenings, and labs.

Accumulated sick leave days and personal business days will be provided under this position as well. Additionally, EVSC employees have access to EVSC Wee Care, our employee-only early learning centers. Wee Care provides a quality early learning experience for children as young as six weeks through age five.

The EVSC is seeking an Assistant Director of Supportive Services.
This exempt position is scheduled 5 days a week, 52 weeks per year. The hours are 3:30pm - 12:00am. AD must be available for work-related calls from 3:30pm - 3:30am. The position will move to day shift during the summer break and all holidays. Assistant Directors are on call every 6th week.

SUMMARY:

To provide and maintain a service oriented department which oversees the maintenance of all buildings and grounds for the district.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.

Supervise the activities of custodians by using both verbal and written instructions in compliance with the guidelines provided by the immediate supervisor and using independent judgment in instances not covered by the guidelines.

Ensure that custodial services meet the needs of the department, the EVSC and established custodial guidelines by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special custodial projects.

Ensure that the quality of custodial services meets established guidelines by inspecting the work of custodial personnel and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines.

Develop an effective team of custodial personnel by instructing all employees in the proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance, evaluating individual performances to meet established standards, providing required performance evaluations on custodial personnel and making recommendations regarding the retention of new employees.

Assist in hiring qualified employees by participating in the interview process and making recommendations regarding the employment of applicants.

Enforce EVSC rules and policies by advising custodial personnel of the EVSC rules and policies on employee conduct, issuing verbal warnings and written reprimands for violations, and recommending progressive disciplinary action to the immediate supervisor as appropriate.

Participate in the development, implementation, and coordination of a safety related training program. Ensure that custodial personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services.

Evaluate new custodial supplies and equipment by conducting testing of such items and recommending the appropriateness of their use.' Ensure administrative records and reports regarding custodial personnel are accurate and current by reviewing employee time cards or monthly time sheets and monitoring employee absences.

Participate in the coordination of resurfacing wooden gym floors with Activity Directors and Principals. Perform daily custodial duties as needed in support of the departmental missions.

Provide continuity of custodial services under emergency conditions or unique circumstances by performing custodial duties directly related to the emergency conditions or as the situation dictates.

Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Remain competent and current by attending training and/or courses required by the immediate supervisor. Contribute to the overall success of the assigned department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned. Participate in the holiday and on call rotation along with other Assistant Directors of Supportive Services.

Member of the administrator snow removal team; Assist with snow removal during evenings and communicate information to the Director of Building Services.

Supervise custodial responsibility of the snow removal process. Add electronic work orders in the work order system providing detailed, accurate information. Frequently monitor email communication and respond accordingly in a timely manner. Complete monthly safety training program.

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board of Trustees' policies. Ability to gather data and make judgments. Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to perform basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Google systems. Ability to coach employees and collaboratively resolve employee matters.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise second-shift custodial staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations, policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing concerns and resolving problems.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required. Custodial experience and personnel supervision preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,

REGISTRATIONS:
Valid driver's license, with good driving record and reliable transporation. Others if requested.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to develop and maintain budgets.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
