Join a team dedicated to bringing the latest Device Services to life for millions of customers globally. Device Subscription programs offer significant benefits bundled with various Amazon device launches, serving as a crucial source of customer value and revenue for the Devices business. Teams focused on Membership Programs, Subscription Services, and Product Line are increasingly utilizing subscriptions and launching devices with bundled services to enhance customer value for Echo Family Devices, Ring, Blink, Alexa, and eero. This team has the exciting opportunity to work directly on new Device product launches, enhance customer experience, and work on large-scale distributed systems at Amazon.

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer (SDE) who is enthusiastic about joining a new initiative and is ready to delve deep into defining product technical strategy and architecture. In this role, you will collaborate with business partners to design, execute, and launch new subscription solutions aligned with business objectives and timelines. Your responsibilities will include managing the architecture, design, and implementation of highly scalable distributed systems that offer availability, scalability, and latency assurances. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, demonstrated experience leading medium to large distributed services, and strive to make a lasting impact in the Devices domain. You should thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, undeterred by ambiguity or conflicting priorities. Key job responsibilities
  • Develop highly scalable services to handle millions of daily requests and tackle complex software systems issues using cutting-edge technology
  • Translate functional requirements into robust, scalable, and supportable solutions that align well with the overall system architecture
  • Assess and make decisions regarding the utilization of new or existing software products and tools
  • Gain exposure to technologies employed in devices, subscriptions, and e-commerce platforms
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and product managers to design solutions utilizing distributed computing techniques, simplifying architectures, launching new services, and delivering end-to-end solutions
  • Establish optimal processes and lead enhancements in design, development, and operations
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in design, coding, troubleshooting, and operational excellence
  • Engage with the broader Amazon Software Development Community by participating in internal and external MeetUps, Hackathons, and Conferences
A day in the life

Our team oversees the Amazon Devices subscriptions and memberships checkout and entitlement services, focusing on enhancing the customer experience for Amazon users. We collaborate on customer-facing products that are highly prominent and on projects that directly contribute to Devices' objectives of boosting customer engagement with devices. As a team member, you will be both a hands-on engineer and a technical leader, playing a pivotal role in constructing software products and features from the ground up. You will work with a diverse range of technologies, programming languages, and systems, with responsibilities spanning all aspects of software development. You will partner with Product Managers to develop new e-commerce systems, enjoying the freedom and encouragement to explore your ideas and witness the impact of your contributions on millions of customers worldwide.

About The Team

You will be a part of the team embarking on a new multi-year initiative to reimagine the Device Subscription experience from scratch. You will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering a technical strategy and vision necessitating large-scale solutions, resolving ambiguous customer journeys, and establishing new mechanisms for high customer impact, extensive career advancement, and job satisfaction with a healthy work-life balance. You will develop profound expertise in areas such as distributed systems, SDK, app development (React Native & TypeScript), backend services (Native AWS), data storage, and data pipelines. The hired engineer will be directly responsible for building a tech north star of Device Subscriptions with a cross-team impact, influence, and scope at the next level. This initiative serves as a key organizational launch goal with visibility and reporting to high-level teams on a regular basis.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Advanced conversational and written English Level
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
