Director, Sponsored Programs and ResearchThe Director oversees all aspects of proposal administration, sponsored program agreements, and contract negotiation with external agencies.The position assists senior administrators and principal investigators with issues related to externally sponsored research activities and affiliated contractual requirements and guides more complex institution wide grants.This is a versatile position which includes leadership on faculty and staff engagement in grant identification, writing, application, management, and reporting.The position supervises two direct reports in the OSP.Effective communication skills are critical in this position to promote a facilitative environment and functional office culture.Job Description:Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Design, lead and oversee the execution of a college-wide public and private grants program in keeping with the needs, priorities, and competencies of the institution and its faculty and staff.Efforts range from finding grant sources and informing appropriate individuals; assisting with and overseeing the development and writing processes; and assisting with final grant production, presentation, and achievement.Evaluate and interpret funding opportunities and requests for proposals from government agencies and foundations to determine appropriateness for the college; evaluate and recommend how best to respond.Continually review and update information pertaining to changes in federal regulations, specific agency requirements, and procedures for administration of funded awardsProvide oversight and support in grant and sponsored program activities to include contract and subcontract preparation, negotiation, and recommendation for acceptanceIdentifying grant opportunities appropriate for the mission of the college and the characteristics and goals of our sponsored research portfolioWork with the key academic leadership (provost, deans, and chairs) to establish ways to support logical pursuit of funding opportunities consistent with Fort Lewis College strengths and promotion and tenure expectationsWorking with FLC foundation on grants, operations, and relationshipsDemonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communitiesMaintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.Perform other duties as assignedRequired Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:Bachelor's Degree or equivalentProven ability to interact effectively with Office of Sponsored Programs' stakeholders, including administrators, faculty, staff, students, governmental agencies, and other prospective funding sources.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentExperience in successfully developing complex federal proposals.Evidence of excellent written and oral communication skillsService orientationHigh degree of organizational and project management skillsUnderstanding of rules governing grants with an understanding of how to flexible navigate complex systems to serve studentsCommitment to the mission of Fort Lewis CollegeUnderstanding of grant budgetsA demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communitiesPreferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:Master's Degree or equivalentExperience working in higher educationExperience managing a small officeUnderstanding of higher ed funding and grant landscapeReports To / Supervisory Responsibility:This position reports to the ProvostThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that an employee can expect while performing the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).Ability to work in a confined area.Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit;
