FLSA Status: Exempt (does not accrue overtime) Position Type: Adjunct Bargaining Unit: AFT/College Faculty Department: District Wide Overview: The San Diego Community District accepts applications for adjunct positions on a continuous basis. Qualified candidates are added to the adjunct pool and may receive assignments in fall, spring, or summer semesters. Applications are purged approximately one year from submission. Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes. Candidates should reside within commuting distance to San Diego. Major Responsibilities Perform educational advising and administer assessment instruments for prospective students; refer students to support as necessary. Inform students about college procedures, catalog use, regulations, fees, resources, special programs, and placement test scores. Assist entering students in completing a first‑semester individual educational plan and help continuing students identify appropriate academic and educational goals. Conduct individual career counseling and provide career information to students as needed. Assist students in locating college and community resources to resolve problems that interfere with their success. Provide counseling services for probationary and disqualified students; address and identify learning problems in cooperation with the instructional program. Offer counseling and advisement services to special‑program students, including those on financial aid, international students, veterans, students with disabilities, athletes, and retention‑program participants. Assist with the ongoing planning and implementation of the college matriculation plan. Qualifications Master’s degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, or Career Development, or the equivalent. For EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987: completed at least nine (9) semester units of college coursework related to ethnic minorities or persons disadvantaged by language, social or economic factors. At least six (6) semester units of a college‑level counseling practicum or field‑work courses in an EOPS program, OR equivalent. Two (2) years of occupational experience in work related to ethnic minorities or disadvantaged populations (or equivalent). Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Desired Qualifications Equivalency: If credentials differ from the above, submit a Request for Equivalency Form with supporting documentation. Foreign degree holders must have coursework evaluated by a NACES or ACEI member; evaluation must be submitted with the application. California Community College Counselor Credential (valid for life) is preferred. Employment Conditions Submit official transcripts and a tuberculosis exam certificate (renewed every four years). Complete Live Scan fingerprinting and provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. prior to first day of employment. Conditions of employment include flexibility depending on assignment.
