This globally remote role may require international travel twice a year.Location: Worldwide, this is a globally remote roleResponsibilitiesAnalyzing, fixing, and testing vulnerabilities in open source packagesKeeping track of vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem as they are discovered, researched, and fixed, leveraging internal toolsCollaborating with other teams in the Ubuntu community and upstream developers to exchange or develop vulnerability patches and ensure Ubuntu includes robust security featuresAuditing source code for vulnerabilitiesBuilding features and tools to strengthen security of products and contribute to the overall security of UbuntuWhat we are looking forUnderstanding of common categories of security vulnerabilities and techniques for fixing themFamiliarity with coordinated disclosure practicesFamiliarity with open source development tools and methodologiesSkilled in one or more of C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP or JavaScript/TypeScriptExcellent logic, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skillsClear and effective communication with the team and Ubuntu community membersExperience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountabilityAppreciation of diversity, politeness, and effectiveness in a multi-cultural, multi-national organizationThoughtfulness and self-motivationWhat we offerWe consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide.
