Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Collections Agent to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing accounts receivable collections, ensuring timely payment from clients, and maintaining positive customer relationships. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a problem-solving mindset, and experience in credit/collections—preferably within the transportation, logistics, or freight industry.Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor accounts receivable portfolio to identify overdue accounts.Contact customers via phone, email, and written correspondence to collect outstanding balances.Resolve billing discrepancies by collaborating with internal departments (operations, billing, sales, etc.).Negotiate payment plans when appropriate while maintaining compliance with company policies.Document collection activities, payment commitments, and customer communications in the system.Escalate unresolved accounts to management or external collection agencies when necessary.Provide weekly and monthly collection reports to finance and leadership teams.Ensure adherence to applicable state/federal laws and company credit policies.Support continuous improvement in accounts receivable and cash flow processes.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field preferred.2+ years of experience in collections, credit control, or accounts receivable (transportation/logistics experience is a plus).Strong knowledge of invoicing, billing, and credit procedures.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to handle conflict professionally and maintain positive customer relationships.Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and accounting/ERP systems.Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.Key CompetenciesNegotiation and conflict resolutionCustomer service orientationAnalytical and problem-solving skillsPersistence and resilience under pressureTeam collaboration and cross-departmental communication
