Leo is Amazons low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast reliable internet to customers and communities around the world and weve designed the system with the capacity flexibility and performance to serve a wide range of customers from individual households to schools hospitals businesses government agencies and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.This position may require access to information technology or hardware that is subject to export control laws and regulations including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining any required export licenses or other approvals from the United States government. As such the successful candidate must be eligible to obtain any necessary export licenses or approvals based on their nationality citizenship and any other factors considered by the applicable export control regulations.Key job responsibilitiesManage import customs compliance for Kuiper imports into Mexico and other key LATAM countries including but not limited to harmonized tariff classifications country of origin determination product valuation reporting import license applicationsManage Mexico import requirements and documentation in conjunction with Leo Tax Legal and Transportation teamsReview import documents for accuracy and completenessSupport Leos customs brokers with necessary data to enable entry filing for LeoMonitor entry status of imports and provide updates to concerned departments of any holds or delaysTake action to respond timely and compliantly to import holds.Upload and maintain electronic import files in record retention repository for audit purposesHS and extarifco classification for Leo imports maintenance of items database in ERP system support to HTS challenges work with direct manager and Legal on classification rulings as requiredAnalyze customs tariffs & duty ratesMaintain Leos customs compliance work instructions and SOPs manage document revisions and support the continuous process improvement of Kuipers customs compliance programFollow the customs compliance internal controls program to ensure compliance with foreign regulations governing importsKeep and communicate metrics of imports including transit time compliance accuracy cost customs broker performance and relevant data for Kuipers leadershipConduct self-assessments (compliance audits) and implement necessary corrective actionsProvide compliance training to new employees and cross-functional teams and keep training recordsAnalyze and interpret Mexico and other LATAM import regulations and keep abreast of changesCollaborate with supply chain procurement finance tax and engineering functions as requiredA day in the lifeHere at Amazon we embrace our differences. As well as expanding operational compliance programs in Central and South America. Reporting to the Global Customs Operations Manager the Program Manager will promote the sustainability and longevity of Kuipers customs compliance program by developing and implementing guidelines and procedures for customs compliance policy and coordinating activities involved in daily import transactions including but not limited to harmonized tariff classifications country of origin determination product valuation reporting import license applications broker reporting dealing with exception shipments handling free trade agreements among others.As a critical member of our Global Trade & Compliance Team the Senior Program Manager interfaces with internal and external customers customs brokers government officers and other functional areas to ensure compliance and coordination of imports. This person will also identify improvement opportunities and assist with projects to support Global Trade & Compliance initiatives.5 years of relevant work in industry or academia experienceSpeak write and read fluently in EnglishSpeak write and read fluently in Spanish5 years of relevant experience with Mexican Import Customs taxes documentation and record keeping.5 years of relevant experience with engaging customs brokers and handling import transactions end to end from shipment start to entry filing and record maintenance.5 years of relevant experience with advanced Excel and ERP systems (preferably SAP) and ability to interpret data.5 years of relevant experience in auditing customs transactions both self-assessments and responding to external audits.Knowledge of PGAs Regulations in the Aerospace industry is considered a plus.Experience with Customs Compliance programs in South / Central America outside of MexicoBe comfortable with ambiguity and curious to learn new skills.Experience working in start-up mode building or supporting the compliance program from the ground up.A curious self-starter with a proven track record of diving into unknown territory learning new concepts and pushing your comfort zone.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
