Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree in accounting or finance
Core Competencies: Understanding of Accounting &Financial Reporting, proficiency in Excel, Bilingual in English & Spanish, Supervise remote teams, timely delivery of results.
Travel: 4 to 8 trips total per year to the Corporate Office and Mexico Business Unit. If employed at the corporate office the travel would be between 4 to 6 trips per year.
The Controller is responsible for managing the finance and accounting duties related to the Mexico business unit. The accounting department includes staff accountant and Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable team. The main objective of this position is to guarantee the preparation and issuance of complete, reasonable and reliable Financial Information that will serve as a tool for the Board of Directors and the Administration in decision making, as well as the report to external users regarding the situation of the company.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Manage, supervise and control the Accounts Receivable and Payable departments.
- Maintains General Ledger as well as all subsidiary ledgers.
- Prepares financial statements under US GAAP / NIF Mexico.
- Prepares multi-currency Financial Statements to be reported in USD based on FASB 52.
- Responsible for reevaluation of open foreign currency transactions at year-end/Month-end.
- Treasury management, cash flow and projections to guarantee compliance Mexico's obligations.
- Balance Sheet reconciliations.
- Fixed Assets control and depreciation schedule.
- Analyze the monthly Budget to Actual variances.
- Review on a monthly basis the Budget to Actual variances with the Operation Managers and Director of the unit in order to provide complete information to CFO and identify corrective actions.
- Maintains and updates customers' quotes in the accounting system (according to the information provided by the sales manager).
- Complies with statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports and tables related to matters such as cash receipts, expenses, accounts payable, accounts receivable and gains and losses.
- Participates in system implementations to ensure accounting and finance objectives are met.
- Prepares financial analysis by business line and customer for decision making.
- Participates in the annual preparation of the Mexico budget.
- Keeps accounting Records (Paperless)
- Diagnose accounting problems and identify solutions.
- Reviews and approves Vendor Payments.
- Works directly with the Operation team to resolve issues and improvements of processes.
- Supervises (remotely) and guarantees physical inventory counts in a Monthly, Quarterly and/or Annual basis.
- Prepare the required document for External Audit (Banks, Year-end FS).
- Perform and leads internal audit activities in order to guarantee the compliance of the Internal Controls to guaranty accuracy in the accounting records.
- Assist the corporate controller as needed
- Supervise and train other members of the MX accounting and operations team, as necessary.
- Develop and ensure the Internal Control Model and the Accounting Standards for Chemico de México
- Review and approve the tax calculation made by the MX Tax Accountant.
- Coordinate with Mexico external accountants quarterly to review monthly/annual Declarations and Payments.
- Review the performance of the Mexico Accounting team.
- Ensure compliance with deadlines for tax returns and / or the implementation of new Government regulations for Accounting and Tax purposes.
