To provide technical expertise, guidance, and ownership of all welding-related activities for the facility and serves as an enterprise resource for welding-related activities. This role will support Weld Engineer I in meeting IE0099 Arc Welding specifications. This position will be a technical contributor on research and development projects representing a shift from learning and assisting to fully contributing in assignments that are broader, more complex, and challenging in nature.

**Job Duties**
- This position requires experience and expertise in various or specific fields of welding such as welding process, field repair, welding quality, metallurgy, etc. Incumbent needs to have a good understanding of product design to combine with process design expertise to provide for improved manufacturability of parts and major components.
- This position is a contributor to the Facility Weld Quality Plan. Assists in all aspect of the weld quality plan including welder, weld process, weld equipment, and welding materials qualifications to Caterpillar Inc. standards. Develop and document standard work for weld procedures. Responsible to see that the welding procedure database as well as a database for welder qualifications are maintained and up to date.
- Acts as liaison between engineering and manufacturing on welding related issues. Serves on or designates a delegate for all NPI teams. Attends all NPI gate reviews.
- Liaison with fabrication suppliers on welding related issues to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective systems or operations to produce quality products.
- Coordinates the implementation of new technology in the facility. Provides the VOC to new technology developers. Develops individual presentations on all integration projects and prepares and establishes priorities for cost effectiveness. Performs liaison duties with various functional areas to promote smooth transition.
- Conduct and/or review welding related failure analysis.
- Provide technical support to welding engineers responsible for all facets of welding (joining) technology development
- Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, CPS transformation etc., in performing assigned duties.
- Work as a support resource for welding-related issues
- Contribute the development and dissemination of welding-related corporate standards and specifications.
- Consult on joining-related issues such as process, automation, training, repair/salvage, manufacturing engineering, and/or quality.

- Evaluate new products, processes, or systems
- Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units
- Contribute to the design of new products and processes
- Perform product and process maintenance
- Collaborate and support other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers, and suppliers
- Keep up to date on new technologies
- Represent the company externally
- Utilize problem solving skills

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor-level degree in Welding Engineering
- Requires in depth working knowledge of welding safety; welding processes
- Understands the fundamentals of welding metallurgy, quality systems, external welding specifications, engineering standards and specifications, manufacturing practices and specifications, robotics, process modeling, CPS, testing processes and procedures.
- English Conversational
- CWI Certification or Welding Speciality
- Experience developing and implementing engineering specifications and standards and various industry welding specifications.
- Experience with robot welding equipment and manufacturing automation systems.
- Experience working with a different unit or working with different products, processes, or systems
