**WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER**:
The Fisheries Specialist assists in the development and implementation of The Nature Conservancy’s ocean work in the Gulf of California and Mexico’s Northern Pacific (GoC) region. S/he will manage projects and provide technical and scientific support for elements of TNC’s Mexico Fisheries and Aquaculture Strategy. The Fisheries Specialist will be a position within Mexico’s Oceans Team and will report to the Fisheries Lead. The base location for the position will be in La Paz, Mexico. Other locations in Northwest Mexico can be considered. No international relocation, visa sponsorship or assistance is being offered with this position.

**WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU**:
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Provides project management support in small-scale fisheries projects in the Gulf of California
- Coordinates work with local communities in the Gulf of California, including community engagement and participation, identifying key community members, implementing equity, diversity, and inclusion aspects with community-based work
- Builds and maintains institutional relationships with relevant government agencies and other NGOs.
- Develops and implements complex projects, from the planning phase to the deliverable completion phase, based on the Fisheries and Aquaculture Strategy for Mexico
- Proposes and implements methods of monitoring, evaluation and learning
- Develops strategic communication materials for broad audiences
- Coordinates and facilitates meetings and workshops, including complex and large multistakeholder processes
- Coordinates the implementation of innovative decision-support tools (eg. FishKit) and technology for fisheries management, including product development processes and user experience
- Searches, manages, and works with broad data bases and fisheries information
- Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets
- Supports the Oceans Director and Fisheries and Aquaculture Lead with fundraising efforts, including writing and editing proposals, reports, and fundraising materials, as well as with fundraising trips and events, in order to ensure that the programs fundraising targets are met
- Provides team support, technical information, and advise on fisheries regulatory framework and public policy
- Gains cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals
- Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements
- Under mínimal supervision, makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context
- Demonstrates critical thinking and good judgement.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances

**WHAT YOU'LL BRING**:

- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- BA/BS, law or business degree and 5years’ experience in similar position and in fisheries management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience developing high-quality communications products (including donor proposals and reports, as well as communications materials and products)
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of current trends and practices in marine conservation and sustainable fisheries in the Gulf of California
- Demonstrated experience in partnership development (i.e., fishing cooperatives, seafood industry, and government agencies)
- Experience working with local communities in the Gulf of California, including community engagement and participation, identifying key community members, implementing equity, diversity, and inclusion aspects with community-based work
- Experience on the development and implementation of complex projects, from the planning phase to the deliverable completion phase
- Experience in facilitating multistakeholder processes, coordinating and facilitating meetings and workshops
- Knowledge and experience using and developing innovative tools and technology for fisheries management, including product development processes and user experience
- Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means
