You will be part of a team practicing a development first mindset, engaged with cutting edge design, implementation, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and automating day-to-day tasks. Your work will involve solving many challenging engineering problems in a large-scale internal private cloud including observability, monitoring, infrastructure as code, and many other development efforts.
You will collaborate across teams to understand our operational processes and challenges to increase efficiencies and reduce operational burden (toil) while increasing observability and monitoring through code and automation. These deliverables must provide easy-to-use, secure, consistent, and scalable solutions combining open source and internal frameworks. **Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?**
Within the first 2 months: become competent with teams supported infrastructure and responsibilities with respect to standard operations.
Within the first 4 months: independently handle troubleshooting incidents. Also provide solutions or inputs for project implementation.
Within the first 6 months: you will be expected to contribute to our observability, monitoring, auto remediation, and infrastructure as code.
**The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?**:

- Contribute to our observability, monitoring, auto remediation, and infrastructure as code
- Deploy and maintain production environments that requires 24/7 availability
- Ensure our services meet stability, performance, and availability requirements.
- Write technical design documents and hold reviews
- Participate in all team scrum meetings and demos
- Participate in on-call duty rotation
**What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?**
My name is Larry Wong, Sr. Manager, Cloud Operations for VMware Private Cloud. I am extremely passionate about helping our team to improve the reliability of our services as we constantly increase our capacity. I have been with VMware for 8 years, managing a team of highly skilled and motivated engineers and our team is essential for providing the services and infrastructure which supports our company on the way to redefine the foundation of IT.
The team is distributed across the globe and follows the SRE practice of the software engineering approach to IT operations. Our team uses software as a tool to manage systems, solve problems, and automate operations tasks.
**Where is this role located?**
