**Purpose**

This position supports production by making or repairing machine parts using manual and CNC controlled equipment such as lathes, grinders, drill press, etc. Lays out work, sets up and operates machine tools and performs any dismantling, fitting or assembly work required for plant engineering, maintenance or construction.This position also supports the repair and refurbishing to detailed specification of machine tooling such as grinding shoe pads, backing plates, etc.

**Essential Responsibilities**
- Know how to operate manual engine lathes, knee type mills, CNC lathes & mills, all machines and hand tools commonly found in a machine shop; measuring instruments such as micrometers, electronic gauges, indicators and vernier calipers; floor-controlled pendant crane, pedestal grinder, belt sander, hydraulic press, and miscellaneous hand tools.
- Receives instructions, drawings and sketches from supervision/engineering regarding work assignment. Interprets drawings, plans working procedure, performs layout work, orders materials and makes sketches of parts as required. Works in shop or field as required.
- Selects and grinds tools for the job in accordance with the hardness, machinability, and other properties of parts or materials to be machined. Procures or makes jigs, fixtures or machine attachments required for the job.
- Machines and grinds parts to size and finish specifications
- Operates machine tools to make or alter parts to fit into assemblies; drills, reams, or taps holes, etc;
- Uses shop formula and machinist’s handbook to calculate fits and make other calculations as necessary
- Performs related assignments such as making minor pipefitting repairs, lubricating machines and equipment, filling out work tickets, maintenance reports, etc,; handling and moving materials in and about department and plant, hooking and unhooking lifts, assisting with installing/removing parts from production machines, and keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly.
- Team Participation: routine involvement with a variety of plant teams focused on continuous improvement. Occasionally serve as facilitator of such teams.

**Bachelor´s Degree**:
Technician or Bachelor Degree
