**Sanctions Manager**

**Role purpose**:
The role holder supports Senior Management in meeting HSBC’s compliance and regulatory obligations. They will be providing active assistance in the implementation of HSBC’s Sanctions policy in compliance with U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control, United Nations, European Union and Treasury's Financial Sanctions, protecting the organisation from financial crime. This will involve assisting partnering with businesses, developing and implementing strategies, processes, controls and policies and ensuring appropriate training and communications are delivered to HSBC employees.

The jobholder assists the Senior Management of the Sanctions Centre of Excellence (CoE) to identify and contain Sanction risks. The job holder must be able to independently analyze and critically evaluate Sanctions risk without much supervision and escalate as appropriate.

The person will be responsible for managing a team of Compliance Officers that are tasked with the review and investigation of alerts that can exposure the Bank to a sanctions breach. They must be able to give direction and guidance to less experienced staff on sanctions matters and engage with Senior Management as required to direct them in actions to take in order to avoid sanctions breaches.

**Main activities**:

- Managing and coordinating Sanctions Compliance for escalated payments for the HBUS as agreed with management.
- Reviewing any new/amended sanctions requirements and Group Policies, assess their applicability to the business areas and guide the business accordingly ensuring all appropriate processes and procedures are amended to comply.
- Managing the daily review process of escalated alerts to ensure that agreed timelines are met.
- Providing guidance to Compliance investigators on escalated alerts with greater complexity.
- Directly influence the operational effectiveness of the functional/functional unit
- Management responsibility for a team; including people, objective setting and performance
- Support decisions through advice, counsel or services in Sanctions
- Accountable for delivery against prescribed targets, budgets and resourcing and responsible for volume, quality and timeliness of end results
- Adhere to and actively support established policies and procedures in own team
- Support change initiatives and embed change initiatives within own team
Requirements
- The jobholder must have at least 3 years’ experience in Sanction Compliance roles.
- Strong critical thinking skill set
- Interest/Awareness of geopolitical events that have/could have impact on Sanctions.
- Knowledge of SWIFT messages (preferred but non-mandatory)
- The ability to multi-task across many fields involving potentially complex projects and multiple teams
- The ability to adapt to change and provide input where necessary
- Experience in managing and developing a team
- Proven communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate and in writing at all levels
- An excellent command in English
