Electrical Engineer

The incumbent plans and conducts work requiring judgment in independent evaluations, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. This requires devising new approaches to problems encountered utilizing established problem-solving tools and techniques (i.e. A3, 8D, fishbone, 5Why, etc.). The position requires sufficient professional experience to ensure the competence of a fully trained worker.
This position will be primarily responsible for production floor support and process improvement for the production of complex, tight tolerance components utilizing various equipment including high finishing systems, centerless grinders, wire drawing and pin cutoff equipment, metal forming equipment, and surface finishing equipment. Additional responsibilities include procurement of new equipment to support capacity uplifts and new programs.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Sr. Engineer independently performs most assignments with instructions about the general results expected. (S)He receives technical guidance on unusual/complex problems and requires supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
- Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs large and important engineering projects.
- Coordinates and reviews teams of technician / maintenance work while also leading in a supervisory capacity for such teams. This work is not limited to providing direction to team members in the design, construction, and operation of complex, sophisticated, state of the art systems, machinery and equipment.
- Confers with management and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, etc. to facilitate production processes.
- Confers with customers, both internal and external, to determines product specification and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials or parts.
- Plans and designs manufacturing processes in industrial plant. Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force and capital utilization.
- Determines robust parts, tools, processes, and equipment needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification.
- Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice. Controls a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
- Retains a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a firm understanding of principles and practices of related specialties. May supervise other engineers or technicians.
- Provides a smooth interchange of ideas and information between supervisor, engineers, co-workers, and customers (both internal and external). Ability to foster and maintain a team approach and working environment.
- Possess and utilizes strong methodical problem-solving skills to drive to the root cause and implement sustainable corrective actions (DMAIC model).
- Communicates effectively to all stakeholders including plant personnel, management, and external customers.
Safety and Health - Responsible for completing required safety training, reporting and correcting any unsafe practices as appropriate, completing work activities in a safe manner, and complying with safety and health requirements for respective position.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Minimum Qualifications)
- A BS in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or and at least five (8) of experience as an engineer.
- Must have experience with equipment specification, project management and manufacturing processes, automation, and controls systems.
- Experience in the automotive industry is preferred.
- Experience with SolidWorks or AutoCAD is preferred.
- Familiarity with databases is a plus.
