Misión Surf was born out of Misión México's passion for the ocean. We are a not-for-profit hotel and
surf school with a sister home and a sister community project in Tapachula. Since opening Misión
Surf, we’ve hosted community classes, surf workshops, yoga retreats and we even care for animals.
Misión Surf is a place for people to enjoy whilst giving back to the wider community, and supporting
our mission to give love, life, and hope.

**Role Context**:

- Our Community Development Program, Proyecto Faro, was established in 2021. Proyecto Faro is a community development program which transforms the behaviours, attitudes and skills of youth, motivating them to become agents of positive change within their families and communities. It does this through providing positive experiences and opportunities at no cost to the participants.
The Community Programs & Development Volunteer is responsible for:

- Assisting with the delivery of our community programs in Puerto Madero and Villa de Sol
- Assist with the day to day running of our social impact hotel Mision Surf.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Proyecto Faro
- Assist with the delivery of our weekly community classes.
- Be responsible for the setup and pack down of our community classes space, including deep cleaning space weekly.
- Assist with the running and implementation of community events with both program participants and the wider community.
- Work to encourage participation by community youth.
- Assist with helping to teach basic skills like numeracy, reading and writing.
- Assist with helping to maintain a strong level of classroom behavioural management.
- Supervise youth, ensuring their safety and wellbeing is prioritised at all times.
- Assist with swimming lessons when necessary.

Mision Surf
- Welcome and register guests on arrival.
- Clean rooms, hallways and restrooms, replenishing supplies.
- Clean all public areas, ensuring trash is not visible and safety is prioritised.
- Respond at all times in a friendly, helpful manner to guests and other colleagues.
- Responds to guest requests and inquiries while in public areas.
- Assists with other responsibilities and duties in the absence of other team members or other tasks assigned by management.

**Essential Criteria**:
Experience and/or relevant qualifications working with children or young people with

backgrounds of trauma and/or disadvantaged backgrounds
- Conversational Spanish is required, conversational English is an advantage.
- Experience working in hospitality or cleaning roles.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills.
- Responsible attitude.
- Strong conflict resolution, negotiation and problem-solving skill with an ability to demonstrate patience, consistency, empathy, flexibility, initiative, humour, honesty and maturity.
- Proven ability to work as part of a team.

**Additional Information**:
The role requires a 4-month minimum commitment.

On engagement of the role there will be a 4-week probationary period at which time the
Community Programs & Development Manager and successful applicant will review the position and future of the role.
