Mechanical Engineer

As a world leader in robotic tape libraries, Quantum is looking for a Mechanical design and sustaining engineer to push our robotic data storage tape libraries even further. Our products are used by Fortune 500 companies, Governments, and large internet companies around the world. The Quantum tape library products undergo routine new product development and refresh cycles that provide a challenging, mechanical product development environment for an engineer at any stage of their career. For our products to compete in the market, we push the boundaries of product cost, reliability and performance.

This role is to be based in our Guadalajara office most days during regular working hours, Monday - Friday.

**Job Duties**:

- 3D modeling (proficiency with PTC CREO is a plus) molded part design, sheet metal design, machined part design, material selection, FEA, ball bearing and bushing selection, selection of power train components (fractional horsepower), system level electrical interconnect, familiarity with configuration control systems such as Agile, cross functional problem solving, lab testing and qualification (shock and vibe), and vendor communication.
- Collaborating with the US-based mechanical design team, manufacturing, suppliers, and program managers to identify, qualify, and implement mechanical or electromechanical changes.
- Mechanical simulation, tolerance analysis, cost/value engineering, and design for manufacturability.

**Job Requirements**:

- Expected to travel to the local factory on short notice to investigate and help solve problems detected on the manufacturing line.
- Strong knowledge and experience with metrology techniques for mechanical parts.
- He/she should be using peer review, design review, analysis, FEA, prototyping, testing, etc. to prove and quality check engineering deliverables.
- This position involves both new product design and sustaining existing products.
- Must be able to appropriately balance schedule and cost effectiveness with thoroughness and diligence when solving problems.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline. Looking for demonstrated design experience.
