- Pursues and facilitates obtaining legal protection of Deere Intellectual Property by acting as a liaison between the inventors, typically engineers, and the Patent Attorneys. Meets with engineers to collect information regarding an invention and completes invention disclosures for consideration by the Unit Patent Committees for pursuing patent protection; searches electronic and paper data bases of prior technology to determine if an invention is patentable and to identify patents that require further analysis by the attorney for clearance to make a product; reviews recently issued United States (US) patents, selects and forwards patents to product engineers; and with engineering and the attorney, conducts searches and analysis of third party patents in developing competitive assessments of a third party or technology.

**What Skills You Need**:

- Acts as a liaison between inventors, usually engineers, and patent attorneys in order to Facilitate obtaining legal protection of John Deere Intellectual Property.
- Collects information from engineers regarding an invention and completes invention disclosures for consideration by the Unit Patent Committees for pursuing patent protection.
- Searches electronic and paper databases of prior technology to determine if an invention is patentable and to identify patents that may require further analysis by the attorney for clearance to make a product.
- Reviews recently issued United States patents and disseminates to engineering units to inform engineers of patents in their respective fields.
- Conducts patent searching and performs analysis of results to develop a competitive assessment of a third party or technology to identify where others have established a patent positions and where John Deere has the potential to obtain patent rights for new technology developments.

**What Makes You Stand Out**:

- Capable of performing internet research on various topics.
- Ability to use various department specific computer programs.
- Fundamental understanding of machine forms relevant to the specific job assignment and Company division/unit. Knowledge/familiarity with machines manufactured by competitors.

**Education**:
Degree in Design Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Innovation or Equivalent Experience
