IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
**THIS POSITION WILL BE BASED IN NOGALES, SONORA**
- This position is offered under UNOPS Local ICA contract for 6 months.

1. General Background
(Brief description of the national, sector-specific or other relevant context in which the individual contractor will operate)
UNHCR continues to observe an increasing number of asylum claims being submitted by citizens of countries of Northern Central America in Mexico, including a significant number of people with specific protection needs, such as LGBTI persons, unaccompanied and separated children, women at risk and survivors of violence, among others. Additionally, asylum claims by Venezuelans and extracontinental individuals have contributed to an unprecedented level of asylum claims in Mexico.
The Field Assistant is normally supervised by the Field Officer/Associate and performs a variety of functions related to Field activities within the office. The supervisor exercises close control and regular review of the work processes and provides regular advice and guidance.
2. Purpose and Scope of Assignment

- Assist in administrative tasks as required such as preparation of reports and meeting authorized personnel and assisting them during field missions.
- Act as interpreter in the exchange of routine information, contribute to related liaison activities and respond directly to routine queries.
- Collect data and other information relevant to UNHCR and report to the supervisor accordingly.
- Keep regular contacts with local authorities and implementing partners as requested by supervisor.
- In coordination with local actors and government, assist in the reception, registration and provision of assistance to persons of concern to UNHCR.
- Liaise with local authority counterparts, partners and populations of concern.
- Direct incidents and problems to the supervisor when they cannot be resolved at their level.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Monitor the occupancy and needs of reception spaces in Sonora and report weekly results through the activity information platform.
- Plan, monitor and make visible the distribution of food and non-food items delivered according to the needs of the context.
- Visit reception spaces and participate in the review of inter-institutional guidelines for serious protection incidents in shelters.
- In coordination with the protection Unit, train and sensitize the staff in charge of the shelters and allied actors on matters of VG, PEAS, child protection and registration.
- From an AGD perspective, identify physical and legal protection needs and refer to the necessary service to ensure that the person can use their rights and meet their needs and timely register in the progress system or other tool.
- Perform other related duties as required.
3. Monitoring and Progress Controls

- Prepare draft reports and documents on incidents, missions, meetings, process flows and other relevant issues.
- Provide regular updates on outputs including the number of missions conducted, the number of shelters visited, and the number of cases/persons assisted.
- Update statistics and qualitative information.
- Undertake all operational activities in a timely and professional manner.
- Map the local services available to people on the move, update and disseminate visibility material in strategic spaces.
- As an active UNHCR team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly, and high-quality support rendered to UNHCR and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions.
