Position Summary
Cummins is seeking a : Heat Treatment Manufacturing Engineer Senior to lead manufacturing engineering activities related to heat treatment operations, process optimization, equipment implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead manufacturing engineering projects from planning through implementation.
- Develop, optimize, and standardize heat treatment manufacturing processes.
- Oversee operation and performance of continuous and batch furnaces.
- Ensure compliance with CQI-9 and applicable quality standards.
- Drive process improvements related to carburizing, quenching, tempering, and annealing.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and reduce waste.
- Manage capital projects, equipment acquisition, installation, and commissioning.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Coordinate activities with suppliers, technical centers, and cross-functional teams.
- Ensure compliance with Cummins safety, ergonomic, and manufacturing standards.
- Support audit activities, customer requirements, and certification processes.
- Lead operational and engineering teams within a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Required Technical Qualifications Heat Treatment Processes
- Minimum 3 years of experience in heat treatment operations.
- Experience with:
- Continuous furnaces.
- Batch furnaces.
- Automotive heat treatment processes.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Carburizing.
- Quenching.
- Tempering.
- Annealing.
- Pyrometry experience.
- Metallography interpretation and analysis.
- Metallurgical inspection knowledge. Quality & Core Tools
- Experience with:
- PFMEA.
- Control Plans.
- Root Cause Analysis.
- Problem-solving methodologies:
- 8D.
- 5 Why's.
- Ishikawa Diagrams.
- Pareto Analysis.
- CQI-9 knowledge and application. Manufacturing Engineering
- Manufacturing process design and optimization.
- Equipment implementation and industrialization.
- Capital project management.
- Manufacturing standards development.
- Workstation and material flow optimization. Continuous Improvement
- Lean Manufacturing.
- Six Sigma.
- Kaizen.
- Waste reduction initiatives.
- Productivity and efficiency improvements. Leadership Experience
- Direct leadership of approximately 23 production associates in a 24/7 operation.
- Coordination of 6 engineering-level peers or specialists.
- Team development and technical coaching.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills. Education Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline, including:
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electromechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Or related disciplines Language Requirements Intermediate English or higher. Must be comfortable interacting with:
- U.
S.-based suppliers.
- Cross-functional global teams.
- Cummins Technology Center in Michigan. Additional Requirements
- Approximately 10% travel availability.
- Occasional travel to the United States (primarily Michigan).
- Ability to visit suppliers and equipment manufacturers as needed.
