Position Summary

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will serve as a key technical contributor and internal subject-matter expert, owning critical mechanical design decisions across the full product lifecycle. This role offers meaningful influence over engineering standards, constructability, and system performance, working closely with cross-functional stakeholders in design, manufacturing, and field operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Lead the mechanical design, validation, and optimization of modular building systems and subassemblies, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive advanced tolerance stack-up analysis and apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) methodologies to improve scalability, efficiency, and quality.
- Own and refine installation, lifting, and assembly strategies for prefabricated modular units, balancing constructability, cost efficiency, and field execution risk.
- Provide technical leadership on transportation and handling solutions, collaborating with operations and logistics teams to ensure safe and repeatable execution.
- Partner cross-functionally with architectural, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to establish and continuously improve engineering and quality standards.
- Develop and review detailed 3D models, drawings, and technical documentation using CAD platforms (Onshape preferred).
- Serve as a senior technical advisor on material selection, thermal considerations, mechanical interfaces, and system integration.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, materials, and best practices in modular construction, proactively introducing innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support mentoring and technical guidance of junior engineers as the engineering function continues to scale.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (Master's degree is a plus).
- 7+ years of progressive mechanical design engineering experience, preferably within modular construction, prefabrication, industrialized construction, or adjacent manufacturing environments.
- Proven expertise in complex mechanical system design, structural considerations, and engineering problem-solving in real-world applications.
- Strong proficiency with CAD software (Onshape preferred; SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent required).
- Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS preferred); working knowledge of Revit is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, influence cross-functional teams, and drive engineering decisions with minimal oversight.
- Strong communication skills, executive presence, and the ability to translate technical complexity into practical solutions.
