POSITION NAME: Research Farm Manager
ORGANIZATIONAL CHART: This position reports to the US Senior Manager: Global Research Farming, is a member of the Research and Development Team and works closely with Fall Creek Breeders and regional nursery operations. This position supports the global Commercial team members.

JOB SETTING: Field, office, and nursery setting with most of the time spent in the fields.
This position is based at Fall Creek's nursery and principal offices located in Tala, Jalisco.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Some domestic (any of Fall Creek Mexico's subsidiaries) and international travel might be required.

ROLE: The Farm Manager is part of Fall Creek's Research and Development department and manages all research farm activities at all regional research farms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Manages supervisors and team leaders working at the regional research farm(s).
Creates and manages the operating budget for the farm(s) and the nursery.
Supervises management of all harvest crews, planting crews, and weed management crews.
Supports field data collection on Research and Development projects, both at the research farm and at the nursery.
Manages fertilization plans, both in the field and in greenhouses.
Manages data collection, inventory reporting activities, frost and heat protection at the research farm(s).
Collaborates with various departments to provide horticultural technical support to the Research and Development team, including reports, presentations, and training events. Supports new product launches with the review of variety management guides to ensure variety-specific best management practice recommendations.
Develop and lead a professional farm management team, empowering improvement of the team's skills and abilities, creating a valued career path within Research and Development and other Fall Creek departments.
Implements the pest management plan, including all management activities regarding pollinators.
Manages use of equipment and facilities with Farm Supervisor and other departments.
Ensures purchasing and receiving of farm supplies, fertilizer, and other chemicals as needed according to purchasing policies.
Oversees creation and adjustments to the irrigation schedule.
Manages all potting events, field plantings, and plant movements.
Reviews routine equipment inspections and reports submitted by Research Farm Supervisor, follows up on any issues with the Facilities department.
Performs benchmark with clients and customers to identify best practices and new technologies that could be implemented in our fields, as well as cutting-edge science that could improve plant performance.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in related field (agriculture, horticulture,) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Requires three + years in a supervisory role and 2+ years in a management role.

LANGUAGE REQUIRED & SOFTWARE SKILLS
Bilingual in Spanish and English is highly desirable
Strong computer skills with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.
Competent oral and written communication skills.
Requires good judgment and the ability to positively influence.
Must demonstrate professional and ethical practices, adherence to company values and policies, and a commitment to personal and professional development.
Well-developed capabilities in situational leadership, problem solving, decision making and dealing with ambiguity.
