About the Role
Passport is an innovative shipping & logistics company helping brands expand into global markets, especially in high-compliance categories such as Vitamins & Supplements, Health & Beauty, and Food & Beverage. We are seeking a Regulatory Compliance Specialist to ensure our merchants meet international product compliance requirements while enabling rapid market expansion.
You will manage end-to-end compliance projects, from regulatory screening to full product approvals, acting as the key interface between merchants, internal stakeholders, and external regulatory consultants. This role blends hands-on regulatory research, project management, and AI-powered compliance intelligence to deliver fast, actionable guidance to our clients.
You'll be expected to leverage AI tools for monitoring regulatory changes, automating ingredient and document checks, organizing compliance databases, and accelerating merchant onboarding without compromising accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Screening & Research
Conduct regulatory assessments for new and existing merchants, including ingredient reviews, product labeling checks, and market-specific admissibility requirements
Use AI-powered monitoring and search tools to track, summarize, and interpret changes in global regulations across target markets (US, CA, UK, EU, AU, etc.)
Evaluate both trade compliance (customs clearance, carrier restrictions) and product compliance (safety testing, registration, labeling) risks for direct-to-consumer and in-country enablement shipments
Maintain a structured knowledge base of regulatory requirements for core product categories
Merchant Onboarding & Compliance Enablement
Manage end-to-end compliance onboarding for merchants, ensuring all restricted products are flagged, documented, and addressed before launch
Leverage AI-based ingredient and HS code validation tools to speed up product eligibility checks
Develop and maintain category-specific checklists and SOPs, using AI summarization and template creation to ensure consistency and speed
Collaborate with sales, onboarding, and operations teams to communicate compliance requirements clearly and efficiently
External & Internal Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory consultancies, labs, and government agencies
Coordinate with internal customs and trade compliance teams to align product compliance with carrier, clearance, and shipping method constraints
Maintain vendor relationships and ensure consultants are engaged efficiently, with AI-enabled tracking of case status and turnaround times
Process Improvement & Automation
Use AI and automation tools to improve data gathering, regulatory tracking, and compliance reporting
Identify process gaps and propose tech-enabled solutions to improve onboarding speed, accuracy, and scalability
Document compliance workflows thoroughly, creating reusable assets and guides for internal teams and merchants
Qualifications
Required
3+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, preferably in consumer-packaged goods, food & beverage, health & beauty, or dietary supplements
Hands-on experience with ingredient screening, product classification, and compliance documentation
Proficiency with collaborative tools (Google Workspace, Notion, Slack, Jira) and readiness to learn and implement AI-based tools in a compliance setting
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance
Ability to manage multiple compliance projects end-to-end in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Preferred
Project management experience
Certifications in Regulatory Affairs (RAPS), HACCP, GMP, or Dangerous Goods
Experience with global market entry for high-compliance product categories
Familiarity with customs clearance processes and carrier-specific restrictions
Proven ability to use AI tools for research, classification, and process automation in a regulated environment
Strong working knowledge of US, CA, UK, EU, and AU product regulations in at least one major category (cosmetics, supplements, food, medical devices, consumer electronics, or apparel)
Ability to speak up when data or responses don't seem correct
Willingness to eventually be on calls with consultants and brands
Performance Expectations
Accuracy: Maintain high accuracy in compliance determinations and documentation
Speed: Meet or exceed onboarding turnaround goals without compromising thoroughness
Collaboration: Serve as a trusted partner to internal teams and external merchants
Innovation: Continuously explore and integrate AI and automation tools to enhance compliance operations
Application Process
Once you apply, you'll receive a 26-minute TestGorilla assessment to evaluate your problem-solving skills
If you score well, I'll invite you to a video interview, and afterward we'll share personalized feedback from the conversation
After the interview, you'll complete a take-home practical exercise
Final step: You'll meet with the Hiring Manager
