**Job Responsibilities**:

This role provides support for complex metallurgical and materials science manufacturing assignments in various functional areas, contributing to the enhancement of Caterpillar products, processes, systems, methods, etc. The engineer will work independently, meeting expectations in delivering results, learning to consider alternative courses of action, making timely decisions, and improving communication skills.

This position reports to the Advanced Materials Technology México team and is part of the Materials Technology organization within Caterpillar's US-based AMT division. The Advanced Materials Technology group has over 400 employees worldwide, responsible for heat treatment of more than 100,000 tons of steel per year.

The engineer will collaborate daily with the Monterrey team and US-based personnel, as well as other groups like operations, maintenance, and quality, to solve problems and improve processes. This role requires hands-on operation and troubleshooting of equipment, prioritizing work, and executing tasks in a timely manner without oversight.

**Key Activities**:

This position involves developing new products and processes, improving existing products, and providing technical guidance on efficient operation, scheduling, and maintenance intervals of key equipment to minimize downtime. The engineer will lead projects to rebuild or redesign equipment and work with maintenance to improve equipment and increase uptime.

Responsibilities include developing and maintaining process documentation for equipment, FMEA, control plans, safe job procedures, and standard work instructions. This role is also responsible for the safe operation of heat treat equipment, including creating and maintaining Safety FMEAs, ensuring safety and fire prevention equipment functions according to Caterpillar guidelines, and addressing day-to-day safety and ergonomic concerns.

This position may require extended travel to the US-Midwest for training and frequent travel between Monterrey and the US. The engineer will deal with day-to-day planning and execution of assignments, using clear and direct references and providing straightforward solutions to problems.

**Required Skills/Qualifications**:

BS in Materials/Metallurgical engineering, self-motivated, results-oriented problem-solving and prioritization skills, previous experience in technical problem-solving, excellent mechanical aptitude, ability to travel to the US for extended periods, and bilingual in Spanish and English (conversational and technical).

**Relevant Experience**:

Manufacturing experience with job roles such as Heat Treat Engineer, Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, and Chemic.
