Position Overview:
The Fiduciary Attorney - Assistant Vice President is a key role responsible for delivering legal expertise and strategic counsel to the organization. The primary aim of this position is to ensure comprehensive legal support and guidance to the business operations.
This position requires a proactive and knowledgeable attorney with a deep understanding of the financial services sector, coupled with a robust grasp of the relevant laws and regulations applicable to our operations. The attorney will contribute to strategic decision-making by applying sound legal judgment to formulate proactive, risk-aware, and commercially viable solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel to the business, engaging in strategic initiatives, and offering subject matter expertise regarding pertinent laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with legal colleagues to critically assess business proposals, analyzing documentation while leveraging institutional knowledge and risk tolerance in alignment with industry practices.
- Work collaboratively across various internal departments and with external legal advisors to ensure coordinated and effective resolutions on shared interests.
- Contribute to business planning and development efforts by offering insights grounded in legal knowledge and industry trends.
- Assist in identifying and managing legal, regulatory, and reputational risks by partnering with compliance and risk management teams, monitoring relevant legal developments, and participating in internal initiatives.
- Oversee daily legal operations as a subject matter expert, providing advisory services to business stakeholders.
- Monitor and manage complex legal issues and transactions, escalating matters as necessary.
- Evaluate risks associated with business decisions, ensuring adherence to legal standards and protecting the organization's reputation.
Qualifications:
- 5-8 years of relevant experience in the financial services industry.
- Experience in banking or financial law, particularly in relation to banking regulations.
- Familiarity with international laws and regulations, maintaining awareness of the evolving legal landscape.
- Proven experience with complex transactions, demonstrating the ability to analyze issues and devise legal solutions.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with a track record of building and maintaining trusted relationships.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
- Active bar license in good standing.
Education:
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree.
- Experience in fiduciary matters and knowledge of applicable regulations, preferably with a background in banking or financial systems.
- Experience with various types of trust agreements, including guarantees, administration, investment, and syndicate credit agreements.
- Advanced proficiency in English is essential.
