Job Title: Legal Counsel III

CIMMYT is a leading international organization dedicated to solving global agricultural challenges. We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel III to join our team in Texcoco, Mexico.

Job Summary

The Legal Counsel III will be responsible for managing the contract life cycle, including development, drafting, review, negotiation, and quality control of various agreements. This role will also involve supporting the implementation of intellectual property policies and strategies, as well as providing legal guidance to scientific team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contract Life Cycle Management: Develop, draft, review, negotiate, and quality control of grants, subgrants, research collaboration, consultancy, vendor, lease, host country, nondisclosure, and other agreements.
  • Intellectual Property Support: Assist in the implementation and adoption of CIMMYT's intellectual property policies and CGIAR Intellectual Asset Principles.
  • Legal Guidance: Provide legal advice to scientific team members on intellectual property matters, including the use of genetic resources and technologies.
  • Process Optimization: Participate in the optimization of legal services processes and guidelines.
  • Representation: Represent the Legal Department and CIMMYT before different authorities and forums.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Law, Master's degree or specialization in Intellectual Property or Technology Transfer.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Intellectual Property law, preferably in technology transfer, licensing, and/or patent law.
  • Language: Advanced English level (C2).
  • Additional Requirements: Experience or knowledge in private and/or public sector industries related to agricultural R&D, biotechnology, genetic resources, or big data is a plus.
