The role involves providing engineering expertise and strategic direction for intricate projects related to new product introductions and ongoing support for existing product lines, focusing on both new and established processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Directs initiatives for the research, development, and execution of innovative processes and materials, emphasizing joining techniques such as adhesives, soldering, welding, and mechanical fastening.
- Develops and implements creative solutions to manufacturing challenges.
- Conducts experiments to gather and analyze test data, establishing appropriate parameters and variables for process or material specifications.
- Formulates project plans that encompass scheduling, experimental design, equipment development, budget considerations, and process execution.
- Integrates new processes and machinery into production, ensuring high quality, timely delivery, and adherence to project specifications.
- Utilizes technologies and methodologies to produce goods that enhance employee health, safety, and environmental sustainability.
- Collaborates with site operations and Product Development to formulate process strategies, providing Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA) insights for new product designs.
- Partners with Quality Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to develop process flows, plant layouts, control plans, standard operating procedures, inspection plans, process FMEAs, and value stream maps for new processes.
- Serves as the primary process liaison to the corporate team, sharing process innovations with sister facilities.
- Assists with existing and new products through equipment trials, including adhesive dispensing, press fitting, automated soldering, and laser marking.
- Regularly visits external supplier manufacturing sites to identify opportunities for process enhancements and automation aimed at improving quality, safety, or cost reduction.
- Develops, maintains, and mentors team members on project documentation, including schedules, drawings, lab notebooks, process reports, and project files.
- Acts as a mentor to junior engineers and support staff in the field of process engineering and related equipment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience, with 7 to 10 years preferred.
- Proficient in English (reading and writing).
- Familiarity with standard office software tools (word processing, spreadsheets, and communication applications).
- Experience with Mini-Tab is preferred.
- Willingness to travel for project-related work, both locally and to various sites.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- Lean / Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt).
- Knowledge of adhesive technologies.
- Experience with manufacturing machinery.
- Ability to interpret mechanical and component drawings.
