Job Summary

The Legal Officer - Asylum Services will be part of the team at Uscri's field office, involved in the implementation of providing legal services through representing cases, capacity building, and information sharing regarding migration-related matters with relevant authorities and other actors in the field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design capacity building programs in migration-related themes as instructed by the Program Coordinator;
  • Build capacity of and instruct authorities and other relevant actors in migration-related themes, in person or virtually, in accordance with the developed strategy, the realities at the border, and the rights of migrants in border cities;
  • Maintain a database on the complementary courses and the profiles of those being directly served;
  • Draft monthly reports on migration policy and the changes at the border with the aim to support the work of the organization;
  • Develop educational material and legal literature for the construction of a legal corpus;
  • Create and maintain discussions with partners and people of interest with the objective to generate informative materials together;
  • Draft legal defense documents and representation for the beneficiaries of the program, as well as follow up on all stages on the status of the legal processes of the assigned cases;
  • Draft routine reports, minutes, and other relevant documents;
  • Support in other administrative activities;
  • All other tasks necessary to fulfill the job description.
Requirements
  • Degree in law;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of work experience dealing with representing asylum seekers;
  • Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian response, for refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and/or other vulnerable populations;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to government funders, donors, clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and experience, multicultural staff, community partners, and volunteers;
  • Exceptional time management, attention to detail, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, financial systems, and database programs;
  • Commitment to Uscri's values including demonstration of respect for others and appreciation of a multicultural workplace;
  • Must pass a criminal background check and other screening requirements;
  • Demonstrated support of Uscri's values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace;
  • Spoken and written Spanish and English is required.
Training and Development
  • Satisfactory completion of Uscri's Orientation and Training;
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.
Physical Demands

Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity;

Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
