Role Overview
The Cyber Security Engineer is tasked with the design, implementation, and maintenance of security protocols to safeguard our organization’s computer systems, networks, and data. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of cyber security practices, a robust technical background, and the ability to anticipate emerging security threats.
- Develop and enforce security policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Perform regular security evaluations, vulnerability assessments, and penetration tests.
- Design and deploy security solutions, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption technologies.
- Prepare and deliver reports on security status and incidents to management.
- Stay informed about the latest security trends, threats, and technological solutions.
- Analyze vulnerability assessment results, mitigate false positives, and act as a security advisor to business unit partners.
- Create comprehensive risk assessment reports detailing identified security issues, potential business risks, and prioritized recommendations.
- Maintain documentation for security processes and compliance requirements.
- Contribute to enhancing the company’s security assessment capabilities through improved methodologies, processes, infrastructure, tools, and deliverables.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies and advancements in Cybersecurity.
- Provide expertise and solutions as a subject matter expert.
- Monitor and enforce best practices in security and compliance.
- Manage daily compliance tasks as required.
- Review and respond to escalated security incidents.
- Proactively search for vulnerabilities and threats within our environment.
- Maintain knowledge of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP).
- Provide timely updates to relevant stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Monitor and analyze security systems to detect and respond to incidents.
- Investigate security breaches and related incidents.
PCI DSS Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
- Conduct regular gap analyses and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities.
- Develop and implement remediation plans for PCI DSS compliance issues.
- Maintain and update PCI DSS compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, and security controls.
- Conduct internal audits and readiness assessments for PCI DSS certification.
- Collaborate with external Qualified Security Assessors (QSAs) during official PCI DSS assessments.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on PCI DSS requirements and best practices.
- Monitor PCI DSS compliance status and report to senior management.
- Stay updated on changes to PCI DSS standards to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Coordinate with external auditors during security assessments.
- Work with IT and other departments to ensure comprehensive security strategies.
HSM and Crypto Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Host Security Modules (HSM) for secure cryptographic key generation, storage, and usage.
- Implement policies for cryptographic key management, including generation, distribution, rotation, and destruction.
- Ensure secure handling of cryptographic keys in line with industry standards.
- Conduct audits of cryptographic key management processes for compliance and improvement.
- Collaborate with teams to integrate HSM solutions with applications and systems.
- Provide technical support for cryptographic key management and HSM issues.
- Stay informed about advancements in cryptographic technologies.
Other Regulatory Responsibilities:
- Conduct audits related to relevant regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO/IEC 27001, DORA, NIS2, and BaFin).
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., PCI DSS, GDPR, ISO/IEC 27001, DORA, NIS2, and BaFin).
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- 2-3+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise vulnerability management.
- 2-3+ years of experience supporting diverse IT systems in large organizations.
- 2-3+ years of solid understanding of industry best practices for security vulnerability remediation.
- 2-3+ years with SCCM, WSUS, or similar tools in an enterprise environment.
- 2-3+ years of experience in scripting for automated patch management processes.
- Extensive experience with core vulnerability management scanners (e.g., Qualys, Tenable).
- Strong knowledge of OWASP Top 10 and the ability to articulate application security risks.
- Technical understanding of enterprise IT and cloud-based architectures.
- Preferred certifications: Net+, Security+, OSCP, CEH, CISSP, GIAC (GSEC, GEVA, GPEN, etc.).
Additional Skills We Desire
- Understanding of application and system mapping and scanning techniques.
- Technical knowledge of current cybersecurity threats and trends.
- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Familiarity with tools like Metasploit, Contrast, AppSpider, Burp Suite, ZAP, and PumaScan.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Ruby, Perl, PowerShell, or BASH.
- Ability to correlate data from multiple sources to identify cyber threats.
- Strong analytical skills for data research and interpretation.
- Familiarity with automated vulnerability discovery tools.
- Knowledge of vulnerability assessment methodologies like CVSS or OWASP Risk Rating.
- Strong technical skills in information security, HSM key management, and network security.
- Excellent multitasking, prioritization, and resolution skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing environments.
