We are seeking an exceptional .NET Developer to contribute to the migration of legacy VB4 applications to modern .NET Core solutions. The role requires a solid grasp of legacy systems, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with the IT team to facilitate a smooth migration with minimal disruption to business processes. Key responsibilities include:
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in analyzing the existing VB4 architecture, identifying dependencies, and assessing migration risks.
- Contribute to the development and execution of a migration strategy to upgrade VB4 code to .NET Core while preserving existing functionality.
- Refactor and rewrite legacy code as needed to align with modern development standards.
- Use migration tools such as Visual Basic Upgrade Companion (VBUC), Visual Studio Migration Wizard, and other relevant tools.
- Configure and test ODBC connections to ensure seamless database communication with minimal change.
- Work closely with stakeholders to validate and test the functionality of the new .NET Core application.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during the migration, testing, and deployment phases.
- Document technical processes, specifications, and changes made during migration.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in software development, particularly with Visual Basic 4/6 and .NET technologies.
- Proficiency in VB6, VB.NET, and .NET Core (versions 3.1, 5, 6, or 7).
- Experience with desktop application development and deployment processes.
- Knowledge of ODBC drivers and database connection management.
- Familiarity with Windows environments and shared network drives.
- Ability to modernize legacy code while understanding and applying design patterns.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
