Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Linux Ubuntu Administrator to join our IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of Linux Ubuntu servers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation and Configuration: Install and configure Ubuntu servers for various environments (development, testing, production). Configure server software and applications, ensuring compatibility and performance.
  • System Administration: Manage and maintain server environments, including performance tuning and monitoring. Perform regular system updates, patches, and upgrades.
  • Security Management: Implement and manage security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and security audits. Ensure compliance with security policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for server-related issues. Work with development teams to resolve application and server performance issues.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures. Ensure data integrity and availability through regular backups and disaster recovery planning.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures. Generate regular reports on system performance, security status, and other metrics.
  • Collaboration and Training: Collaborate with other IT staff, developers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless operations. Provide training and guidance to junior team members and other staff on Linux administration best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as a Linux System Administrator, specifically with Ubuntu.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating system fundamentals, including system architecture, kernel, and file systems.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, Docker).
  • Understanding of network protocols and services (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).
  • Knowledge of security best practices and tools (e.g., firewalls, SELinux, AppArmor).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of database management (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
