Job Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer will support lead engineers with the creation of 3D CAD models, 2D and 3D drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and product lifecycle management (PLM) data. This role requires minimal to no supervision and coaching. The successful candidate will support the team in preparing for design reviews and, if needed, preparing documentation for customers, engineering teams, and executive teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and development of mechanical components, including drawings, 3D parts, assemblies, and manufacturing bill of materials (MBD).
- Creation of detailed product specifications and technical documentation.
- Selection of materials and hardware, with a focus on steels and copper.
- Collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams to drive process improvements.
- Research and identification of suppliers for components, including sheet metal, hardware, fastening, HVAC, and other materials.
- Development of skillsets in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics to support component selection and heat exchanger design.
- Piping design for hydraulic systems.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on developing sheet metal, assemblies, welding, brazing, and pipe design.
- High-quality engineering deliverables, including drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and customer-facing documentation.
- Proficiency in CAD software, with a preference for PTC Creo.
- Experience with product data management (PDM) and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, including Oracle Agile or Fusion Cloud.
- Knowledge of HVAC/R systems and components, with a desired expertise in air-cooled chillers.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, both verbal and written.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Ability to wear safety equipment, including boots, gloves, sleeves, helmet, and safety glasses, when required to support factory operations.
Travel Requirements
- Up to 10% travel, which may be local, regional, or global.
