Construction Safety Manager

Tesla is seeking a highly skilled Construction Safety Manager to lead the safety culture for the Gigafactory Mexico project.
The successful candidate will report to the EHS Director and oversee the construction safety program and onsite operations for the project. They will lead a construction safety team to support project activities, including heavy civil, steel erection, electrical and mechanical systems, and equipment and tooling installation for both contractors and Tesla internal construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage contractors, vendors, and suppliers by enforcing Tesla's EHS policies and procedures
- Support Tesla Construction Management regarding construction and tool installation planning, including overseeing the pre-qualification process of EHS requirements for both local and international contractors and suppliers
- Monitor and audit regulatory compliance and EHS processes at assigned construction locations, and ensure a safe workplace through development, implementation, and sustaining safety programs
- Perform frequent combined safety and environmental inspections and procedural audits in the field and have the skills, knowledge, and ability to take immediate corrective action if required
- Lead and document accident/incident investigations to determine root cause, prevention, and corrective measures
- Ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal health and safety regulations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
- 10+ years of Health, Safety, and Environmental experience, with experience in construction safety or similar environment building commercial and/or manufacturing facilities over $50M
- DC3 or DC5 certification and CSP, CHST, or other globally recognized accredited certification in EHS
- Working knowledge of STPS, NOM's, SEMARNAT Regulations, and regional EHS regulations
- Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish. Must have the ability to discuss technical topics with a variety of audiences - contractors, engineers, and regulatory agencies
- Experience with managing EHS programs and contractor safety management
- Experience leading successful project teams, including development of employees, and maintaining relationships with external entities and ability to support EHS programs with strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
