SGI Global LLC seeks a highly skilled Senior Corrections Specialist to support the Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in Mexico City, Mexico. This role requires professional and administrative support services to work with the U.S. Foreign Assistance Program to Mexico.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This position is based in Mexico City, Mexico, with travel to other locations in Mexico, the United States, and other countries required.
  • The successful candidate will participate in outreach activities with domestic and international law enforcement communities to increase awareness of INL programs and policies and solicit greater cooperation and participation.
  • This role involves conducting scheduled diagnostic, follow-up, and pre-audit visits to federal and state correctional facilities in Mexico, assessing conditions and operations, and providing reports on each prison visited, including their needs, capacities, shortcomings, and progress toward accreditation by the American Corrections Association (ACA).
  • The Senior Corrections Specialist will support the correctional accreditation effort in developing and implementing professional training standards for corrections staff that meet or exceed international standards.
  • Evaluation and assessment of training requirements in the Mexican Penitentiary System are essential, ensuring instruction meets international training standards. The specialist will provide technical assistance advice, training, mentoring, and support to Mexican partners in Corrections best practices in the management of prisons.
  • Developing and implementing policies and practices for corrections facilities to guide the operation of secure, humane, gender-sensitive prisons that prepare inmates for reintegration into society and discourage recruitment by transnational criminal gangs is crucial.
  • Preparing background materials and reports used by INL in preparing speeches, briefings, and testimony on corrections is an important aspect of this role.

Requirements:

  • Mexican citizenship is mandatory.
  • FSI Level 3/3 Spanish language proficiency is required.
  • FSI level 3/3 English language proficiency is also necessary.
  • A Bachelor's degree in international relations, criminal justice, social sciences, or a related field, combined with (5) years of law enforcement and/or professional work experience in correctional institutions, including (2) years of managerial and supervisory experience, is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the specific subject matter requested is essential.
  • The ability to pass a U.S. Embassy RSO security background check is required.
  • Effective communication skills to deal with senior U.S. and GOM officials are necessary.
  • Experience in drafting and authoring weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a high-stress environment is essential.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with host-nation counterparts is necessary.

Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per annum
