At Polaris Inc., we strive to drive innovation and excellence in our manufacturing operations. As a key member of our team, the Director of Production will be responsible for overseeing all production activities within a manufacturing location, including back shop and assembly production operations. This role will work to build a world-class lean operation, increasing site profitability, improving reaction times to customer orders, managing seasonal and indirect employees, and developing a best-in-class production organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Direct production operations while partnering with internal and external stakeholders to ensure execution on production and delivery commitments.
  2. Implement plans and programs to enable best-in-class operating procedures and drive continuous rates of improvement in productivity, capacity utilization, reduced costs (labor, materials, waste, and inventory).
  3. Promote and maintain a safe working environment for employees.
  4. Own site development, key metrics, and culture.
  5. Ensure supply chain and operational readiness for new product launches and deliver on key metrics (On Time and In Full, Service Rating, Manufacturing Cycle Time, and Quality).
  6. Plan, direct, organize, and coordinate all production activities relating to product manufacturing and production control to streamline systems and improve material flow.
  7. Partner with the Quality organization to drive product quality and quality improvements.
  8. Build a production culture of continuous improvement, using Lean Standard Work at a fundamental level to create a culture that ensures all personnel are using standard work in the execution of duties.
  9. Develop and execute annual production budgets, manage inventory, and production plans, minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
  10. Responsible for the development of direct reporting managers and team members, developing and maintaining objectives, development plans, performance reviews, and succession plans.
  11. Foster positive employee relations and high employee engagement.
  12. Charter, facilitate, and lead teams to execute transformational improvement initiatives with direct and indirect labor.

Requirements:

  • 12+ years of manufacturing engineering/leadership in heavy assembly/automotive industries, including previous leadership of large production organizations.
  • 4-year degree in engineering or business-related field required, master's preferred.
  • Union or positive employee relations experience.
  • Robust experience and education on lean or similar continuous improvement systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to be hands-on in the operation.
  • Willingness and ability to develop talent.
