About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead our team of software engineers in building and managing solutions for the Amazon Photos Desktop application. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for building and managing a team of software engineers, prioritizing and planning projects and features, managing partners and tracking external commitments, and driving continual improvements to the efficiency and flexibility of the software.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, motivate, reward, and coach a diverse team of engineers.
  • Prioritize, plan projects and features, manage partners and track external commitments.
  • Drive continual improvements to the efficiency and flexibility of the software while keeping an extremely high bar on customer trust, performance, and availability.
  • Work with Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and UX Designers while defining and executing your team's charter.
  • Provide inputs into quarterly and yearly planning.
Requirements
  • 1+ years of engineering team management experience.
  • 6+ years of engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers.
  • Advanced writing and spoken English proficiency.
