Senior Director of Software Engineering

Capital One is seeking an experienced software engineering leader to help build and grow our Technology Site in Mexico City. The Senior Director of Software Engineering will be responsible for building and leading a team of software engineers who focus on software delivery experience tools, cloud governance, and automation. This individual will guide software engineering teams responsible for designing and delivering high-quality software for critical business features, built on AWS to the latest technology standards.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned technology professional with significant engineering experience. This individual has the capacity to exert influence at the enterprise level and lead experts, while also possessing the qualities of a highly-skilled technologist who approaches problem-solving with a true engineering mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a team of 50-70 high-quality software engineers
  • Support an aggressive recruiting agenda to assess and staff a large (100+ person) high-quality software engineering organization
  • Provide thought leadership and guidance to software engineers and product partners, focusing on software delivery experience, cloud, and risk engineering
  • Encourage innovation, cutting-edge technologies, and out-of-the-box thinking
  • Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and proactively manage relationships with Capital One US Tech leaders
  • Stay on top of tech trends, learning, and experimenting with new technologies, and mentoring members of the engineering community
  • Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments
  • Support continuous improvements processes and shift-left well-managed activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 15 years' experience in a technical role, i.e., data and software engineering
  • At least 5 years of executive technology leadership experience
  • At least 5 years of experience driving architecture and engineering excellence at enterprise scale
  • At least 5 years of experience with public cloud technologies
  • Fluent in Spanish and English, both spoken and written
